After an exciting weekend, GXL is, sadly, over. Guess that means we can only wait for the next ESEA LAN…
Wait a minute… no. We don’t have to!
“What do you mean?” you may ask. Well, what if I told you that there are numerous LANs all across the world; some may not even be too far from you? Amazing, right? People just need to go to them. Most of these LANs, despite many of them being open to anyone, probably go unnoticed by our community. And if we do notice them, I assume that we only go to a few of these (GXL, ETS, etc.). The only LAN events I’ve actually seen people play at are Windy City Rendezvous, the Insomnia series, GXL, ETS, FITES, some Intel LAN in Atlanta, and, of course, the ESEA LANs. Out of those, the ESEA LANs and Insomnia series are the only ones that have been consistently held and streamed. The rest I either missed, weren’t streamed, or people didn’t go to until the past year (or in the case of WCRV, was new this year). Feel free to correct me on these, but this is based on my observations.
We need to go to more LAN events. Even if it's just a casual event, it will help spread TF2 as an e-sport. If possible, each LAN should be streamed to make people aware that the LAN event exists as well as provide more exposure on Twitch. GXL can become our Insomnia series, but all these smaller LANs can still help push our game.
Even if you don’t care about helping TF2 grow, you can still get something out of LANs: socialization. This aspect is usually near the very top of the list at any LAN event. What’s not to like about drinking beer (or soft drinks if you’re underage) with the people you've played TF2 with for years?
Take a look at the Upcoming LANs forum. There are numerous LANs that don’t get much attention. Check them out, maybe you’ll find one that’s right next door!
I currently intend to go to the 27th IU LAN War being held next month. I hope to go to WCRV2 (if it happens- and it should!) as well as GXL 2015. Hope you all find a nice local LAN to go to and meet other TF2 players in real life.
Get going!

Ditto. Lange has talked about this at great lengths: http://youtu.be/X3OWooC0Pi4?t=1m7s
GXL was a huge success. We should really do more of these regularly.

a Canada lan will never have as good of a turnout as an american lan because the people in southern america are a lot less likely to have passports as folks near the CANUSA border, plus its a lot more annoying to get a passport in america. plus central america and even northern america is a lot more centralized than anywhere in Canada

There are a lot of Canadians who could say the same about American LANs. Not saying you would get as great a turnout as an American LAN, but I don't think it would be too big a difference (maybe 3/4 as big imo)
Also +1 for a Toronto LAN

Last I heard, the Atlanta LANfest had stopped supporting TF2, is there anything in the Southeastern US that does?

if everything falls into place, we intend to attend an american LAN next year hopefully... can't guarantee anything yet though!

I'll always go to FITES as long as a decent amount of TF2 players show. I might go to ETS if people nag at me enough. :p

There was the South Florida charity LAN organized in August that will be held again next year. We could also try to get back into LANfest Atlanta or something like GT Gamefest in the spring.

Florida LAN was hyped up for 3 months, the stream never broke 20 viewers.
idk a solution

FITES already had a pretty solid turnout for tf2 players last year, this next upcoming one we could definitely make pretty large

I'd like to do FITES. I wish they had a better facility to use.

FITES should be awesome, although it is a max 250 person lan. Definitely a different experience from GXL.

GXL felt really small compared to ETS imo, but just the size of the TF2 presence at GXL made it better.

Could we have a central or west coast LAN attempt to do what GXL just did for the tf2 community? I'm sure there are a lot of guys from other parts of the country that missed out simply because it was too far or too expensive, myself included. It'd be awesome if we continued having LAN's like this, I'd love to go sometime and meet people.

Seconded. I've been to a few west coast LANS but they have all been very small with under 10 tf2 players attending. East coast lans are to expensive for us normal folk to go to without some extreme dedication.

extine? who's that? ;)
Yeah, I just got so many great ideas once I started relaXing at home. I think we should handle seating as thus: No one can pick seats right away, teams registered before Mid-February get guaranteed group seating, at that point all remaining seats marked as "TF2" in the system will be allocated a block from which they can pick their particular seats. This will dramatically help single players form teams at the LAN and help us know where teams are located, as well as team names etc.
Lets get some feedback on where to hold a west coast lan. Please +/- the following 4 posts appropriately. If it comes to piggybacking on the back of a pre-eXisting LAN such as the Sacramento LANFest, we need to consider mass pre-purchasing a group block.

There's a reason our biggest TF2 lans are held in New England.

That said, if another lan like GXL happens anywhere in NA I will be there. Looking forward to FITES in a few months and gxl next year.
