My Steelseries Siberia is on its last legs, the right ear phone is shorting out alot, I always thought of this set of headphones as just OK, so I want to go in another direction. So I'm looking for some opinions on good Headphones (with built in Mic). Id like to keep the budget under 200. Also I hate if the headphones are tight, so anyone with a good recommendation I would appreciate it. Thanks.
ive had sennheiser hd558's for a year and they've been very solid. im not sure if sennheiser has a better, newer model available, but the hd558s are very good. sound stage is incredible, only problem is the bass is pretty lacking. but other than that i recommend them highly
edit: didnt see you wanted a built in mic. i recommend against that. buy solid headphones + a mod mic (or at the least a zalman clip on mic) and your overall quality/price is gonna be way better than a headset

If you are looking for flat response, http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-380-Pro-Collapsible-Professional/dp/B001UE6I0G is a great bang for buck.
If you really want a headset, look into these as they periodically go on sale for this price.

You could get some dt770s with a modmic/zalman mic. Not sure if you have an amp, but I can't imagine that the 32ohm version would be that hard to drive. dt990 pros and mdr-7506's are good too. If you can, just avoid gaming headsets; they're overpriced.
Built in mic --> Sennheiser PC 350 SE
No built-in mic -->ATH-M50x (Closed) + Zalman Clip/Antlion Mod Mic

And it's also at a decent price. I paid a hundred bucks for the 280s and the sound is very balanced.

You can wait for this drop to go live again, they did a quick run of it just a month or two ago and they still have stock so expect another drop soon (February-ish). For 200$ this seems like a steal as they're supposed to be like the AKG k702 annies (http://www.amazon.com/AKG-K702-65th-Anniversary-Edition/dp/B00A8LZ5GU these run for $370). If you could hold out till around February this would be a great deal. Buy a mic with this and you're golden.

If you are going to look at the 702's at all I'd just say go for the 550's they are a fucking amazing pair of closed back cans, I love mine to death
I think you should go with the Sennheiser HD 598
However I got 650s for xmas

While on topic, does anybody have any over ear recommendations for pure sound quality? Budget doesn't necessarily matter.
That's dangerous nko.
If you don't mind going in ear and you really have unlimited budget, go for JH10 IEMs from JH audio. These are the type that you go to an audiologist to get ear impressions made and they fit them exactly to your ear.
http://www.jhaudio.com/product/jh10-pro-custom-ear-monitor
While they aren't over ear they are going to be far better than any universal fit, and they will feel better due to the custom nature of them than any normal in ear.
If you're on a budget look up ear 1964, they do these for much less.

My rig (sorry for the bad picture):
Phones: HifiMan HE-500 - $599
DAC: Schiit Modi - $99
AMP: Schiit Magni - $99
Definitely the best sound you can get for the price. Logical vertical increments would be the HifiMan HE-560 ($899) or Audeze LCD-2 ($800). Do NOT waste your money on bigger and badder amps, DACs, or cables unless you like throwing tons of money at marginal improvements. An extra $300 goes so much further in improving quality by buying better headphones than anything else you could do.

I've had Logitech G430s and I love them. Easy to clean, good mic quality (from what my friends say) and I have absolutely no problems with sound quality. From what I remember they are around 80$ which is pretty good in terms of the quality.

Audio Technica and Sennheiser have a lot of good models in that price range
V-moda LP2 is a model from v-moda that i can recommend

i got an audiotechnica m50s with modmic works great and cost under 200. do some research on what kind of headphones you like cuz theres warm ones, bright ones, bass heavy, whatever..etc. but i would definitely suggest doing a headphone + clipon vs a headset. you get way better quality from both sides that way. good alternative to modmic is the zalman clip on, if u want to save a few bucks or would rather spend the money on your headphones.

aside from mentioned suggestions; look into the HD800.
Schiit has good, cheap dacs/amps.
i use the ODAC+O2 combo myself, and vouch for them to be worth that bit more.
or just go for the Sennheiser Orpheus HE-90 + HEV 90.
only 300 were made. the combo is probably still well over 10k, if you'd even find a seller:

Sadly the Orpheus got some issues with the pads.
Also you'd be loooking at 20k+, good condition more 30k+, for near perfect condition even more if they're even willing to sell.
I'd say just get SR-009 and save yourself the hassle.
Maybe the SR-Omega if you can get one. Not the SR-007 w/e Omega, the actual SR-Omega.

The only thing about Stax is that electrostatic headphones are one of the rare instances where you actually are required to have an expensive, powerful amplifier because they require so much juice to power. You're looking at another few grand, easy. Of course, when you're spending over $5k on a pair of headphones, what's another few between friends?

to anyone: if you are going to be spending large sums of money on audio products, it is of your best interest to audition the headphones or whatnot before hand. Different headphones sound different, and your taste for sound and music might be different than that of a reviewer.

Yeah, you'll be dropping another 3-5k on the amp. Still way cheaper than the Orpheus. You can't even get the HE-90 without the amp for that price.
#25
Inb4 someone blindly buys an Orpheus. And then gets mad at us because they don't have insufferable amounts of bass.
Seriously, audition anything over 50$,there's no reason to buy something and just to regret it afterwards.
