anybody have some ways to make a couple bucks a month at home? ive been looking into survey sites but i get mixed reviews about them. i was also considering reselling shit from craigslist/ebay but i have yet to try my hand at it.
currently i use this site MindSumo, you get paid for doing challenges like coming up with a new name for a company or a slogan. some of them pay pretty nicely but i guess you have to be a bit creative. (if you wanna sign up with MindSumo, use an email ending with .edu to get extra points, plus add promo code 5ONME for an extra $5 when you start).
theres also the option of selling crafts on etsy, but i really doubt anyone would want to buy things i make.

if there's a place near you, you can try to find a center to go donate plasma at, it usually takes roughly ~2hours, and they will most likely pay you in the 40-60 dollar range

Unless you can make website design on Freelancer or whatever, there really isn't a good way to make money at home.

If you can program well, bidding for freelance jobs can bring in a bit of cash, writing is the same way but much more competitive.

There's a lot of careers you can end up in that let you work from home (or eventually do). Most require you to actually go out and network though and then work your way up.
I write for a large radio broadcasting org from home, but that took a while to get.

just to specify i dont mean that i want to work from home, i mean im looking for ways to make money at home while im looking for a job.
also, regarding freelance programming; would i be able to make any money as a self taught programmer or would i need an actual college education? if i were to teach myself, what is the best language to start out with?

When I took a UI course last year, we focused a bit on human computation, particularly looking at Amazon Mechanical Turk. You get paid to do simple labour tasks like "Compare two results of a product search side by side and judge which one is better" and "Type the text carefully" aka extract the text from an image. Basically you're doing simple labour tasks that companies crowdsource out. It doesn't pay that much (article says around $1 to $2 an hour), but I can't imagine it being worse than filling out surveys.

There are a lot of self taught developers that freelance, including me. The rates typically depend on your experience and skill set.

do you know if these places accept anyone, or there is some kind of registration process? i looked into donating sperm, but that shit is so hard to actually get paid for- they dont take just anybody, and you dont get paid until your contract ends.

doesnt sound like a bad idea but its probably a huge investment of time and money that i dont have right now.

Actual question: Is there any reason why you specifically want to make money from home rather than get some entry-level job? Nearly anything you could do would pay worse per hour than flipping burgers or stacking boxes somewhere.
EDIT: I'm dumb, you already said you're looking for a job. Don't give up on it!

Want to suggest you not count anything out, or consider yourself "above" any job. Good advice not just for you, but for all the students who will be looking for summer work.
I work in my field of study now and it's great and I love it. But before this, I worked at KFC making chicken, retail several times as cashier, call centers, I did cleaning in a hotel, just whatever shit I could get. I know the tendency is to say "I won't like this job" but hey - when the paychecks start coming, it won't bother you much.
