I've said it at truetf2 but I'll post it here for visibility:
Again he's lying about informing LAN organisation about the 500 euro.
When we were in a TF2Center staff meeting, MN mentioned to have cut the entire prize pool, and donate 500 euro to our fund raiser instead (covering costs for players coming to LAN).
I couldn't call him out on it since he might have told other LAN staff members about it, and went to Foungi (DeutschLAN staff). Foungi then told me he never heard about anything less than 2000,-
Late june was the first time anyone of LAN staff hearing about not receiving a prize pool from TF2Center, and instead getting a donation to the fund raiser.
Sadly I know how this came to be, I was invited to MN's house a while ago and showed him the indiegogo, having a pretty neat amount after just a few days campaigning. He probably thought it was easier to just add to the campaign, but that was set up to cover costs for staff and players, with a guaranteed prize pool in mind.

Did this TF2Center staff meeting happen in late june?
Either way you guys obviously didn't communicate at all with MN afterwards as you went straight to a public announcement, and he didn't communicate with you effectively either. It's so weird the way people are expecting professionalism and getting outraged at the lack of it on the side of TF2Center - yet basic communication isn't being implemented almost anywhere from either side. Shit's gonna go wrong, and when it does go wrong there's no effort to make it better, everyone just assumes the worst.

The TF2C meeting was at the late june, and we reserved a week length for Foungi to discuss things with masternoob. After the week (last week) hartz went on and announced our detachment from center. Obviously that was hasted but our full announcement on how what when was posted shortly thereafter.
I was fully aware of what was happening and why MN did what he has done. I had behind the scenes view of both organisations, and I would not have walked away from a project I've spent that much time on if there was any doubt of center being dishonest to the community.

Whether or not you agree with the rest of MasterNoob's post, I think it's impossible to deny how right he is about the current alternatives to tf2center being discussed are being created because people are angry. Let's face it, these things do not mature or even become usable overnight, and if you really are serious about creating an alternative to tf2center and marketing it so people actually use it, you're going to need a lot more than a few months.

I agree that it'd be a lot of work, but I don't think it must be more than a few months :p

Lets assume we are currently making decent progress. Also all our work is opensource and you can follow the progress, even when there is currently no live version or anything. Yes, it will take more than 1 week, but actually it goes faster forward currently than I assumed initially.
We will try to keep you updated on the current state.

ppl say they wont pay for a service that is already free
continue to split the community by copying something that already works
do people not understand that only like 1-2% of the players on tf2center are affected by this (not counting in all the people that go on the site to insult the admins and get banned deliberately)

I can't fathom how people keep going on about how trying to build an alternative to TF2C from the ground up is a bad solution to a problem that only ~10% of its userbase is being affected by like if constructive criticism and basically trying to talk it out with MN and MT was a viable option, when it's clearly not an option at all because they're a bunch of insufferable dickholes who would just cover their ears and refuse to change at the slightest attempt of a call out on their shitty behavior and community management.

I don't mind competition, but first look at the good and viable alternatives. TF2Pickup is accessible for anyone to contribute. Creating your system from scratch instead looking if you can help them is just a bad starting point.

I think the tf2center people are WAY past the point where anyone sane will try to help them in their effort. They're insufferable, childish, rude people and there's little hope to fix the absolute mess of a system they have with our words. So, introducing an alternative competitor could do one of two things: force tf2center to get better staff and have better policy OR give us a thing that isn't tf2center to play lobbies on.
Both are better options than what we have now.

I personally volunteer myself to help MN and MT with their poor administration choices towards the community and staff once their childish tantrums and their "It's MY ball and I decide who gets to play with it" mentality/overall shittiness fades away.

I think this isn't a competition but instead a very complicated message to them. Words didn't work, we have to try our other options.

CHERRYIt's something different though. TF2Center and TF2Pickup.
They may be different, but ultimately the point is to not reinvent the wheel as far as infrastructure goes. If the major difference between PUGs and lobbies is the picking process, why not try to add in lobby functionality on one of the existing sites instead of starting entirely from scratch?

I can easily see it being less work than patching it into TF2Pickup. The difference is massive and it's not just picking process it's also who hosts servers, how many queues are available at the moment and many other things.
On top of that TF2Pickup's codebase is not really flexible from what I heard, but it doesn't matter since it's just a different project, different goals, different audience, different way to go about serving for the similar purpose.

I would like to answer that. TF2Pickup does not want to be like TF2Center, its that simple.
Why now some idiots come and build something from scratch? That's relative simple too.
- Educational Project for certain Technologies (WebSockets for some, Golang, ...)
- Creating an OpenSource Project where everyone of the TF2 Community can contribute
- Implement features under own guidance and not under the leadership of TF2C Staff or TF2P Staff
The reason why I joined the project was mainly that I wanted to give Golang a shot and saw the chance to
build something that cannot be controlled from a certain person. When the current team decides to go nuts,
its opensource. We wanted to create something for the community which is not bound to a player or person.
quintosh: Yeah okay, what's the other option? Rather join TF2C and work with technology you don't like? Under leadership of someone who states himself he is hard to work with?

One thing that I would like to happen at this point would be for the TF2C backend code to be open to public, so that we are free to continue TF2C, or something similar, if the site actually does go down.
