marqueeYou can't disable desktop composition in windows 8+. You get better fps playing fullscreen anyways.
I've been playing in windowed mode on windows 8 for the past 6 months.
Fuck.

Anyone with a REALLY small SSD have tips for clearing enough space to get this install. I've tried using WinDirStat to clear things up but I still can't get to 20Gbs free. My biggest issue being my windows folder is like 24GBs. I think that is due to winsxs having a TON of hardlinks from old software installs and the like. I might just backup important shit and reformat/reinstall win 7, then install win 10 upgr, then clean install win 10. please techno wizards help me.

Try disabling your hibernation file.
From an admin command prompt:
powercfg -h off
(powercfg -h on to turn it back on)
Also you could reduce the size of your page file.
EDIT: Also you can try using the disk cleanup utility. Properties of C » Disk Cleanup » Clean up System Files » Check windows updates.

Anyone here using povohat's mouse accel driver with Windows 10? I really, really don't want to upgrade if that's not going to work.

Has anyone had problems with the update failing? Not sure why it might have happened, but I am running a hackintosh dual boot.
Should I have disconnected my other drives when upgrading?

Ok so I know I probably shouldn't trust Imgur on this matter but

If this turns out to be true, then wtf microsoft, luring people into getting "free" upgrades
Can anyone confirm?

They can't be serious, because isn't it based entirely on motherboard/hard drive?
If it is the case, essentially the free upgrade is just another trial?

I'm pretty sure your OS can read what hardware is in your PC lol, I'm sure there are ways to go undetected but still wtf
And yeah it's essentially a way to lure people thinking they get a free major OS update (if this hardware thing is even true) and then making them pay after they upgrade their hardware

is it silly to expect that a microsoft representative would use proper interpunction? he even makes spelling errors
not saying it's fake, just saying it's looking quite unprofessional. what a mess.
ridiculous if it's true, though

According to this article that seems to be the case unless you use an "authorized repair center".
It's kind of worrying that it's not just linked to your windows 7/8 product key when you do the upgrade, if this is the case.

I mean, if its something you like and use, and got a free year from it.

If you upgrade your hardware you can use your original windows v/7/8 disk then upgrade to 10 for the first year.
Paying a bit of money shouldn't be that big of a deal. Or if you're that cheap you can just pirate it. Although I wouldn't put it past microsoft to make the free upgrade available after the 1st year, just with embedded ad's.

Different sites have conflicting answers.
"If the hardware configuration of your Windows 10 device changes significantly (e.g. motherboard change) Windows may require re-activation on the device. This is the same experience as prior versions of Windows (e.g. Windows 7 and Windows 8.1).* The free upgrade offer will not apply to activation of Windows 10 in such scenarios where hardware changes reset Activation." (Source: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_upgrade/reinstalling-windows-10-after-upgrade/578d0b7f-57e4-4893-b9d1-6cfac0d6290a?auth=1)
*Meaning all it would take is for you to call their support and report the hardware change. No re-purchase required.
"Clean installs for hardware changes
If something major happens to the device that requires something as monumental such as a motherboard change (basically turning it into a new computer), Windows 10 will require re-activation – which will require you to purchase a license. This is what Microsoft means when it says "life of the device." Additionally, you can't transfer a license to a new device. But, if something disastrous does happen, it's usually more cost-effective to just buy a replacement device anyway and that should come pre-loaded with Windows 10. However, if you happen to buy a new device with an older OS installed, you can get the free Windows 10 upgrade as long as it falls in the free upgrade offer period." The WiFi Sense part is inaccurate. The feature is enabled by default but explicit permission is required to actually share it. It also feels like people are forgetting that they do need to be within WiFi range to connect anyway - there's a good chance you'd notice their car parked outside...

I've always had this, on windows 7 & 8 too, my friend has the same problem, both of us have a similar setup, 144hz main and 60hz secondary, went over to his house to see and it was exactly the same. Don't know what actually causes it tho.

I think you're forgetting that most people have neighbors, especially people that live in an apartment would have a lot of problems with this although after reading that zned post might not be such a big problem after all, we'll see how it plays out.
in the meanwhile I am not upgrading my main pc from 8.1 to 10

I have the same thing, it seems playing video on the 60hz monitor makes the game also drop to 60hz
