My fourth grade science teacher called me Ponterrific during class one time as a joke (Pun of my last name) and it stuck. And then basically everyone online shortened it and called me Pont so I used that instead since Ponterrific is a bit edgy.
In high school spanish class our teacher gave us hispanic nicknames and I was Ignacio. Also a big David Bowie fan and one of my first aliases was Ziggy Stardust, so I eventually mixed the two.
S/O to zigzter for actually being named Ziggy
I never had a set alias before and in 2011 I moved from Xbox 360 TF2 to PC after playing it for years and I knew I wanted to eventually get into 6's after watching a friend scrim. I generally would alias as sentences in all caps and I wanted a simple, "clean" looking name to go by so I came up with Söapy because I found it aesthetically appealing as well as fast to say, I also didn't know that there would be a ton of other people with some kind of variant of Soap in their name (there's literally a mrsoapy wtf)
Also the umlaut was taken from the band Leftöver Crack because I was a little entry-level punk kid

My friend showed me Realm of the Mad God when I was 10 and I fucking hate pandas so for a clean version of "fuckingpandas" made my name "Flufnpand". I then made another account for cheating in the same game called FlufnMULE. Everyone called me flufn which I later shortened to fluf because I prefer the one syllable.
PontDifferHence, Differ ∇ = Differ-Del = just a vague nod to calculus and particularly, the gradient vector. :)

there was this black guy in my church group in middle school who was 4 years older than me who would always call me "that white guy" and so everyone in the church group called me dom the white guy for a few years and i didnt really like it but i just went along with it because the older kids were saying it. my old gaming alias used to be toppenguin411 because my friend i played on the ds with was topdog23 and i wanted to change my alias and domthewhiteguy was the nickname everyone gave me so i went with it.
My friends started calling me it when I was at a football camp when I was younger and it stuck with me and became my irl nickname. Just a really weird way to pronounce my name "John"
I found this comic really amusing when I was younger

i was 12 and now i cant change it i wish i was a smarter child
It's my actual initials and I just decided to use it as a username from around the age of 12 or so, but when it came to tf2 I always lied and said it stood for accuracy precision and timing, or the actual word "apt" which by definition is:
(I stole this shit from dictionary.com but whatever, pick any one you want and apply it)
1.
inclined; disposed; given; prone:
too apt to slander others.
2.
likely:
Am I apt to find him at home?
3.
unusually intelligent; able to learn quickly and easily:
an apt pupil.
4.
suited to the purpose or occasion; appropriate:
an apt metaphor; a few apt remarks on world peace.
5.
Archaic. prepared; ready; willing.
It never stood for apartment but I get a good chuckle out of the fact that I'm referred to it by some people. I find it endearing.

quite literally saw the word 'wrungle' in my dream, used it as an alias with 3 instead of e, after a while shortened it to wru and then added all caps coz I'm MF DOOM fanboy etc
I also use 'mineralchrist' outside of tf2 and that came from those poorly drawn breaking bad comics, I thought it just sounds cool

Flavapuff is the name of a manufacturer that makes disgusting snack mix that comes in sandcastle buckets.
My folks were broke when I was a kid, but my mom would get snacks for us from the dollar store. These ended up in the house a lot.
The same company literally makes dog food/treats.

shortened from Perturbed which is one of my favorite words to say
I straight up stole it from a trading bot on TF2 Warehouse, I later shortened it to goofy on steam after everyone was confused as to whether to call me goofy or gorilla in coms.
i was like 11 and thought it would a great idea to twist my little brothers nipple and scream "TITZ!!" and shit just escalated from there, can't bother to change
I'm into astronomy, and I made my name "sombrerowhirlpool172"
The number 172 is just because I like it, I dunno
I shortened my name to sombre2, then changed the 2 to a z.

When I was 12 or so I started playing CoD2 and I asked my friend what would be a cool alias for a young gamer, he said Predator but I wanted to make it edgy (standard 12 y/o stuff) and made it Pr3datoR.
When I was about 16 and started playing Dota 2 I met some guy who told me to change it because people would always call me Pred in voice chat because Predator is quite long.

so i'm mute and can't talk so i used binds and whatever to communicate, however people kept asking me why i didn't comm normally so i changed my name to mute so people wouldn't ask me that. But in the end people still asked me so i guess it was pointless. :P
I had a hilariously racist Boy Scout Troop. The nickname stuck.
There was a point in my life where I got into watches. They were mostly had Quartz movement. So I stuck with that word.
I just had creme brulée for the first time ever and it was amazing, I came up with femme brulée as a little play on words. Had an avatar as this badass burning woman. I was a backburning pyro main on Valve pubs. My pub friends and I decided all comp players had one word edgy names, and I kept being confused with femme fatale (the pyro main), so I cut off "femme" and just went with brulée right before my first season of HL.
(my first ever alias, used since I was 11, was XI shangri la. roman numerals were important)

Was in a mumble w/ a friend who was pretty blazed. He knew that I was wanting to play open but didn't have a way to pay for my fees. He offered to pay for my first season to "nurture my growth" in the game. Some gardening analogies followed, and at some point I got called a Daffodil. It was better than the other cringe-baby aliases I made when I was 10-14 years old so I kept it.
