I agree that having HL as the comp mode would be a logistical nightmare, and having both would split the playerbase.
He criticizes 5cp and mentions that the team who wins mid is the most likely to win. I have no idea how this is a bad or wierd thing in any way. After all, the 2nd and last points are exponentially faster to cap and make the whole gamemode have a nice momentum often. In the other hand, payload artificially slows the game down for everyone even if the disparity in skill between the two teams are quite high, since you have to constantly push that cart. Besides, most payload map have huge open spaces and were clearly not designed for low population servers.

I think we might be on to something, but i don't call badlands spire a nipple because that would be an incredibly long nipple and the last thing you want is your team discussing the social and self complications of having a nipple that long.
But on viaduct both of the rocks on middle are nipples and it makes more sense because they are opposite each other which directly resembles real nipples. Perhaps this goes a lot deeper that we thought...

I feel like this could be fixed by either a) having the cart push itself for a while after blu stops touching it, with it stopping after either someone from red standing in front of it or a certain amount of time elapsing without anyone on blu touching it or b) making new payload maps that are shorter and quicker to finish.

It's not skill level that produces turtling, it's the preponderance of defensive classes that slow the game down and circumstances arising in which it can be in both team's interests to not fight, a minor example is the leading team defending last, trailing team holding outside building uber, or the really horrific case of the leading team holding outside last to burn the round timer to near zero before pushing and the defending team not wanting to push out because losing the round is worse than losing the time.
In PL or AD it's a constant last push, but at least the attackers never want to game a round timer.

i think its more that the defenders advantage in PL or AD are way bigger than in 6s. 6s gets stalematey because people have a lot to lose on a failed push but the actual advantage you need to push in 6s is lower than in game modes with a dedicated defense.

he forgot to mention the part where 90% of the community can't play comp mode with over 20 fps and everyone that can still doesn't feel good about cutting their fps in half. TF2 is a free game. Most TF2 players don't have a gaming pc. Most of them are just kids who play on their mom's laptops.
I'd say that's the biggest reason people don't want to play comp. The obvious solution is removing the forced graphics. Would increase the playerbase for comp by a lot. i'd definitely play it more often.

At least he gets some of his criticisms of the current situation right: trying to figure out class limits that aren't what the current scene uses sucks, and 5cp isn't perfect. But even on those I think his reasoning as to why those are problems is flawed. For one, like so many other competitive Redditors, he seems to think that the 6s scene loves 5cp because it loves 5cp, which just hurts my brain. He completely fails to examine why 5cp has taken a front seat to the different forms of A/D. This is especially frustrating because he goes on to say that 5cp's central problem is stalemates on last, even though that's all A/D is! One team turtles while the other panics about sacing people to beat it quickly or bringing out the sniper to beat it reliably. It's one last hold after another. And then once that stalemate breaks, it starts all over again on the next point. He says that the A/D games he plays are always so unpredictable--like he thinks that just because the pubbers in mm don't know how A/D is played, no one does. It's really a shame.

Not trying to vouch for Dane's point cause it does seem weak but to be fair Overwatch has more options when it comes to classes, so if someone really wants to play a tank that badly they have about 6 options. In TF2, if you wanna be a Heavy and someone is already playing friendly hoovy, you're kinda railed.

Decent enough video. I also enjoy 20 minute wait times to play with a team of rank 1s against maybe 4 rank 12s and some rank 5s, or hackers.
I do still think that getting people playing Valve comp could be good for proper comp, EVEN IF it's not the exact same format we do (so, 1 class limit, slightly different modes, etc).
