Is no one from Se7en going to officially respond? I fell like all the people who believed Kaidus when he said he would send a team to every event and bought Se7en merch deserve at least a small apology.

If it is indeed true that the majority of the team lost motivation and do not want to attend, what do you expect kaidus to do about it? Hold a gun to their heads? At this point I can't imagine another top team would entertain being picked up by se7en - it would appear that the top teams who are confirmed to attend the LAN have already acquired sponsorship or committed to their own (seemingly successful) fundraisers. Furthermore, you have no reason to believe that se7en as a brand wouldn't be interested in picking up another team for future events. Stop making assumptions and wait for a statement.

I think that's the point tho people just want a response.

there's an awful lot of shitting on se7en in this thread. i'd be more interested in making sure those who are left who care about the game are supported to continue on improving the community, especially people who've commited so much of their time and effort into it already.

or we can just keep shitting on them.

I think it's very astute of you to realize that people would appreciate a response. However, I would go as far as to say that at this point in time a response would be something the lines of, "We are still deciding on the logistics behind attending i61." Unfortunately, that response would probably do nothing but stir the masses, with their feet repeatedly tapping the floor in impatience as they await a secondary announcement.

Most likely, posts that already assume Se7en will not respond, such as, "Is no one from Se7en going to officially respond?" are probably pretty annoying for Se7en/Kaidus to read, as he knows fully well both the situation surrounding the team and his responsibility regarding those who have supported them. I would be very shocked if Se7en fades into obscurity and never responds, considering Kaidus' reputation as a player, the work he has put into the team, and the foothold they have in the community.

If you need any more painfully obvious explanations, please hesitate to ask.

It's also likely the reason tf2 is still alive at all. i46 Mixup was a huge gamechanger for even the NA scene alone - between their playstyle, and the playstyles of the teams that emerged as a response (b4nny's HRG, and eventually froyo), there was crazy meta progression... and that's not even getting into what it did for EU.

At the time of i46, EU was in the dark ages, as evidenced by their best team getting dumped on by a team with a dude famous for offclassing engi and another dude who probably did more damage to himself than to the other team in some fights.

I46 rekindled EU's fire, and gave way to teams like ESPI, Broder, and the lineage of the top teams that play today. International i-series lans even gave Aussie superstars some exposure. The community had never been closer. Players weren't just myths anymore. New rivalries were formed. i49, and i52 were probably the most hype tf2 lans I've ever watched.

None of that hype would exist if the players were just going to "hang out and get drunk." The quality of matches would suffer tremendously. Why is everyone so keen on wanting the players to go somewhere to "have a good time?" lol.

Oh wait, they aren't. No one actually gives a fuck about whether the players have fun or not. They just want to see an i-series with certain players there. If i-series lans were some strenuous, grueling, completely un-fun experience, people would still be like "SUCK IT UP AND DO IT FOR THE COMMUNITY."

There's sure a lot of talk of "duty to attend lan for the community" coming from people/players who have never been in that position.

The players aren't the ones being selfish. The people bitching at players to go to lans even though they don't want to go - those are the selfish people.

I was even sympathetic to Mike/Epsi not wanting to go to that one really short notice lan (dreamhack, I think - 'gonna be honest, I don't really know much about it, and I didn't even watch the lan, but it's more on principle).

You're gonna tell me, this dude, who's given thousands of hours of his time, and unquantifiable amounts of dedication and resolve to this game should go to lan with a paper version of his team, with ringers, that he doesn't even want to play for, take a probable financial loss, take a definite tf2 loss at the lan, disgrace the team name he and his comrades (some of which aren't even gonna be there) slaved to build - you're gonna expect someone to do that just to keep up the delusion that someday, valve is going to get a clue/give a fuck? That sponsors are gonna jump all over a 10 year old game with cartoon characters and goofy hats?

If I poured my soul into this game and then some random people who haven't done shit for tf2 other than populate a server/watch a stream came at me with that bullshit, I'd fucking lose it. This sounds like a convenient cop-out but I agree with you entirely. There's no way we get a response of any substance at this point, and I accept that, I just know that there's a load of impatient gamers who won't. I also don't agree with all the random shitting on se7en either it seems dumb (the only feasible explanation is they are bored of the constant se7en winning or didn't like le epic raymon meme and are now completely overreacting to these factors).

edit: also if anyone could explain what the post above me means by dark times in EU? I really only started playing the game just after i43 and didn't really care for the competitive scene until i49, so I really have no clue what this is about and would just like to know as it sounds interesting.

For EU teams at i46 and for years before it was more of a split social gathering/competitive event. People played to win but there were unstable rosters, frequent local mercs (i46 Epsilon played with Shintaz) and hangovers. Even though there was hype about the NA teams attending there was also some complacency, it was a commonly held view that the EU teams would win.

When the NA teams came they were all business and won the event handily in an all NA final, EU teams became more focused and serious after that and formed stronger teams stacked with talent that stayed together specifically with the intention of winning I-series, and EU players that previously wouldn't travel made the effort to come. The Epsilon/Broder (TCM at i49 itself) period that followed i46 was the high water mark of EU TF2.
