discord is good for telling your team when scrims are and stuff but mumble is just so much better for comms

discord's a great social media platform and all that and i greatly enjoy it but the overlay is shit and the quality is shit and it makes my game lag and etc. mumbles just better

does discord have a good overlay? i usually have mumble open on my other monitor to look at but the discord window doesnt shrink down enough to just see the voice part so its kinda shitty

mumble has positional audio wich is cool, but discord is retard-proof and you dont have to explain how to add a server

All I use is discord now because sadly my mumble broke somehow

I've been thinking about going and fixing whatever the (probably dumb) issue is because I really enjoyed mumble; doesn't take up a lot of resources etc

Discord is great for casual talk with yr friends, hanging out etc

But if yr gaming or whatever you can't go wrong with mumble

It wouldn't be extremely complicated to make a voice bridge between Mumble and Discord: User runs <your piece of software>, it asks for your Discord logins and then boots a custom, local-only Mumble server where channels are mapped 1:1 with the voice channels that are available on Discord, it could even mimic the people who are speaking so the mumblelay works properly.
This is kinda the only way I'd see a bridge between the two working, you can fake Discord users to a Mumble client but you'd need tons of Discord accounts to fake Mumble users there.

ummm u guys are missing the biggest advantage of discord:

You can changw the volume of individual people so u can hear quiet people and turn down loud people with obnoxious mics(haha)

Discord is really good for basically everything but I still use mumble mainly for voice because people are just used to it
I use discord more as a program though, just for every feature apart from voice chat

Discord and I don't get along for some reason. It *always* times out whenever it tries to update, and it seems to update pretty frequently, so every single time they roll out an update I have to go to their website and redownload the whole thing over again and reinstall.

Discord overlay keeps fucking up for me in TF2. It works in every other game, but not TF2 for some reason. Idk what's wrong lol.

do yourself a favour and run the 1.3.0 dev snapshot version of mumble. it's very stable but idk when that shit will get released. some of the new features dont work on 1.2.x servers but changing levels individually works fine

my take: mumble is always going to be superior for gaming, but discord is hella nice to chill with friends and easily switch between channels. a big one is that the discord overlay just sucks imo (it's always delayed and looks weird) while mumble is easy to identify the person talking. discord is definitely more like skype, tho, and i would never use skype as a video game communication service. mumble is just simpler which makes it better for video games but not much else.

Discord is for normies who feel the need to mention they built their own computer whenever they can on Reddit.

Between steam, mumble, and dropbox, I can do everything I would want to do on discord while using fewer system resources. At this point, I use someone inviting me to discord as a gauge of how inexperienced they are with tf2.
