You can - though usually stuff of the ar-15 variety needs to come from a real gunshop because the actual demand for such rifles isn't high enough for Wal-mart to justify carrying any/many of them (they're also usually pretty expensive). Wal-mart tends to deal more in hunting/sporting rifles, small gauge shotguns, and muzzle loaders.

NRA already apparently said that the issue was that the school had no guns to defend itself. wat
Were there no cops/ student resource officers at the school? Normally they have guns.

As someone who literally lives in Parkland, lives .1 miles away from Douglas, and actually attended the school, I have to say most of the comments I've been reading online are actually fucking disgusting. I've never had the city I've lived in be in a national spotlight, and it's worse considering it's in the spotlight for an incredibly awful and cruel "reason". It's really different reading about this when it happens in another state, but when it happens in your community, all your views pretty much change on how these things affect you.
There's conspiracies that there wasn't a shooting, that there were a team of shooters, that the kid was brainwashed, that it was a false-flag shooting to cover up some epic NSA/wikileaks headlines that were supposed to be on the news today. There's people asking why students were taking video of this, when no other school shootings had video. There's people literally photo-shopping this shooter's instagram photos with trump hats and re-uploading them on a fake account to push an agenda, when I've LITERALLY seen this kid's instagram before this shit happened, and people are literally eating it up. There's so much mis-information that's being spread, and people truly don't know half of what this town is going through right now. I usually never let comments get to me about any type of topic or subject I enjoy because it's the internet, but when your city IS the subject or topic, and people are just spewing bullshit when they don't even live in the same state, it makes your blood boil.
Sorry, I just needed to rant/vent. Just imagine a shooting happening to the high school you went to and everyone in the country thinks your town can't control it's own kids or think the town faked it in order to push some type of fucktarded political agenda when people simply just can't accept the fact that there are deranged people out there that are willing to do some fucked up shit.

Isn't a shootout much more favourable to a one-sided slaughter?
Had there been a security guard or someone equipped and trained to respond to such a threat then maybe the outcome would have been better, just a thought though.

It's sad, because there are so many school shootings that have happened this year, it's so fucking easy to just dismiss the next one as just, "oh another one".

if you're going to kill you would probably go out of your way to get a gun illegally, so what happens to the people that have their guns taken away?

thats a nonsense argument for a lot of reasons. first, this kid got his guns legally, as do most shooters. making guns more difficult to get prevents gun crime - just look at the gun crime and homicide rates of every country in the world that makes it difficult to buy a gun. second, you're still operating on the assumption that having a gun makes you more protected against gun crime - it doesnt. statistically you are much much more likely to be hurt or killed by a gun if you're a gun owner.
the "good guy with a gun" thing is also flat out wrong for a lot of reasons. one, the good guy with a gun just looks like a guy with a gun to a police officer or other first responder. this is something that happens pretty frequently in america; cops show up, shoot the guy with the gun, and it turns out he was trying to shoot the other guy with the gun. two, the good guy with a gun can only be successful if he knows who the bad guy with a gun is. lets take a recent example, the las vegas killings. what in the hell is a guy with a gun supposed to do in that situation? shoot wildly at a hotel building where it seems like the gunshots are coming from? how about the killing this thread is about. you have a person with a gun walking around a school, looking for the kid doing the killing. do you think real life is an action movie, where our hero gets the jump on the shooter and kills him with a headshot? or are we operating in real life, where someone running around a school with a pistol trying to hunt someone else down is extremely likely to hurt and kill innocent bystanders (as often happens in situations where a "good guy with a gun" actually shows up). even police officers only hit something like 20% of their shots on target, do you think an adrenaline pumped civilian with little to no training is going to do much better than that? probably not.

GritomaI find it really weird that the dude was popping smoke grenades and firing through doors like it was a CS match
He used the smoke grenades to trigger the fire alarms. Therefore, the students and whatnot gathered at the fire assembly point and the school shooter could more easily mow down people.

You could actually take this a step further and say that America (overall) has more fucked up people than any other country because the government does an exceptional job of brainwashing its people. This is done by financial restrictions/manipulations/debts as well as giving people too much freedom. Too much freedom breeds mentally unstable people (of ALL kinds - not just killers) because you give them the freedom to think anything they say/do/feel is okay. Now this is red pill- but take it or leave it

viperit's a black rifle with a pistol grip, therefore it is more dangerous than a wood-furnished rifle without one.
DarkNecrid"Another vote is held on a measure to prevent terrorism suspects from buying firearms, but it does not pass"
I would ask two questions about that:
1.) what is a terrorism suspect
anyone who says they're gonna bomb their school in WoW chat? muslims? brown people? immigrants? people who use encrypted IM services? people who google 'how to make a bomb'? people who own bitcoins? all of these people have been made into terrorist suspects at one time or another
the term terrorism suspect is so broad and nebulous as to be essentially meaningless. And i understand that a part of any bill of that type would likely lay out a definition and so on and so forth, but that's just my point: you're letting one of the most simultaneously corrupt and incompetent governments in the developed world decide on a case-by-case basis whether a person should be allowed to own a gun, when I wouldn't trust them to decide on a case-by-case basis what necktie to wear.
2.) how would that stop any of these shootings
actual real terrorists wouldn't have any qualms getting their guns illegally, and nor would anyone else who isn't a terrorist but just wanted to kill a shitload of people.
and finally, what have you done about it? have to researched all of your representatives and their stances on gun control? if you really want gun control, consider voting for gun control advocates in your next election. If you think that's how we stop these shootings, then hey, go for it, but do something that isn't just whining on a competitive gaming forum for an """""esport""""" that's going nowhere.
And for your troubles:

my personal favorites:
A person who was close to Nikolas Cruz called the FBI's tip line on Jan. 5 and provided information about Cruz's weapons and his erratic behavior, including his disturbing social media posts. ... In a statement issued Friday, the agency acknowledged that the tip should have been shared with the FBI's Miami office and investigated, but it was not.
Students who knew him described a volatile teenager whose strange behavior had caused others to end friendships.
Afterward, she called him a "broken human being."
The resources to stop him before he started killing people were there, either in the form of an at least semi-competent FBI, or a school that actually did its duty to its students. But neither did their damn job and now 17 people are dead. If you think banning guns will do anything to help situations like this, then try it, but I guarantee that these people will still suffer, and some of them are still going to decide to kill people, they'll just use trucks, or explosives, or knives, or whatever else their uniquely damaged minds can come up with, because they think that hurting people is the only thing they can do. Treating the symptom will not accomplish anything.
