Add up in the official matchmaking, in order to get levels on steam !
lets get it
Would love to play, but unfortunately Competitive Mode just isn't very good, good sir. Would be jolly good if they improved it.
yes cant wait to have my game crash because of the wrong dxlevel or just because tf2 tries to force its awful config down my throat only so that i can play in a budget tf2center lobby
got banned 28 days for queuing and crashed because of forced dxlevel 9 and config, its epic
DX8 really needs to die and be removed from the Source Engine. We need to get its usage numbers down so that Valve is more comfortable with removing it and improving DX9.
Robin WalkerWe're also working on bringing over a variety of engine improvements from Left 4 Dead into the TF2 engine, but it won't be a wholesale replacement of the engine. This means we'll get some of L4D's performance improvements, like the better multicore support, but not all of them. For example, we can't bring over some improvements without dropping support for DX8, which we're not prepared to do.

Also, genuinely curious... Doesn't CS:GO also enforce dxlevel and config? Why is it not a problem there?

Nah they should have already developed it before forcing us to use it. I'm not using anything thats gonna make my game run worse than it already does to play a pub
for most modern systems, DX8 is comparable if not worse
remember, it's always best to benchmark your configs to see if you're actually gaining value in using certain setups versus others
and if you're one of the people that uses DX8 for aesthetic/particle reasons you can always use configs for that too

Buy a dedicated GPU from the last decade and you won't notice a difference.

A HD 6850 that i got off of craigslist 2 years ago for $15 sees almost no difference in frame rates in TF2 when switching between DX8 and 9.

imagine investing money into building a tower that you will exclusively play tf2 official matchmaking on
Screwingtheball I have a 980ti and the game runs 13% better on dx8 tyvm
in the mid/long run people will have to run dx9, as it is becoming more and more buggy

What GPU? What config? With mastercoms experimental on a R7 2700X and HD 6850 @ 1080p i don't really see any difference between DX 8 and 9 in frame rates. The difference is like 224 to 217 fps.

I cant be asked to put a GPU into my pc no matter how cheap it is @_@
dx8 just looks better imo
though i also use nvidia inspector for lod bias so im probably an outlier in that regard

dx8 also disables gaudy skins and lessens particles

hey bro sorry to say but there is no long run this game will die
and it will die with people playing on dx8, because dx9 is fucking terrible

Dropping DX8 support would allow for DX9 to have better performance.
wonderlandcs:go is a much newer game with higher requirement and it's never had dx8
Why can't TF2 also have higher requirements? Is it because we want to hold it back? "New" game based on its initial release date doesn't mean anything with so many updates that you can ship to games nowadays.

ok but what about those of us who prefer the look of dx8

its just not worth it in a game of this age.
you will lose more players who have toasters and need dx8 than you will gain by getting a small boost in dx9

Believing in a Robin Walker quote from 2008 is delusional. Not even game breaking bugs get fixed and I wouldn't trust those shit heads at Valve to get it right.
DX9 looks like garbo compared to DX8 (even with all the settings to try and make them look alike)
The biggest joke regarding Valve locking down customization in competitive matchmaking is that you can still do shit like sound cheat, shadow cheat, and remove your sniper scope.
