I still do not understand why some people are so desperate to get the pub community to play competitive TF2 in the current year when essentially every single possible way to get ease into it has been attempted... and thoroughly not succeeded.
Whenever someone argues against a promod or anything of the sort it's always the same old "we just gotta wait on Valve they'll do something"
Like bro did you see the mess that matchmaking was? They literally ignored like 8 years worth of what makes 6s work and what doesn't. The community already figured out how the game's most fun to play and Valve chose to do their own thing. Why are people still trying to suck up to the devs that have effectively abandoned the game? The game has virtually not been updated at all in like 2.5 years and people are still out here clowning thinking Valve will ever give a shit again.
Where in the world does this illusion stem from that anything will change if we just don't "alienate" pubbers?
Why not just play the game the way most people deem it enjoyable? If we need plugins or mods to do so what's the harm? Pablo.gonzales.2010 that just installed Steam might not understand how competitive works?
Most of my personal competitive experience was post-scout buff and literally all I play is Scout and I would love nothing more than a promod that makes Scout less stupid.

Another advantage of testing this in pugs is: If you test some of these changes (particularly quality of life stuff like rampbugs, projectiles/melee colliding with teammates, sticky det bug) and demonstrate that they work and people enjoy them then you can also send them to valve. There's a non zero (although still pretty low) chance that valve might actually patch them into the game because the fix has already been done for them, similar to how most of the hats etc that get added to the game are community made. Balance changes are probably less likely to get pushed through but you can always try.

u guys reckon if valve never brought in a command to turn crits off that we would be playing without a crit removal mod? after all that mod surely would be a hefty barrier of entry to competitive play

If Valve had any interest in fixing any of those bugs they would have long ago, they don't care about the game. The absolute state of Casual being full of bots and server crash exploits should be more than enough evidence of that.
Big Daddy Valve aren't gonna do shit.

Unless I've gone senile wasn't that one of the original things TFTrue did? I'm pretty sure we DID use a plugin to turn off crits

Matthesdmixes are currently running
-medic speed buff removal
-sticky det bug fix
-fixed fall damage
-ramp bug fix plugin
-projectiles dont collide with teammates
in the works
-a plugin that means soldiers dont take additional self damage when they hit an enemy
being considered
-crossbow nerf (remove passive reload?)
Crossbow nerf? Could you make the Syringe Guns worth using too while you're at it? 2020 Battle Medic Meta Shift

i have no real preference about the name of the plugin (tf2-comp-fixes), if you think it is problematic and find a better one (naming things is hard), i'll consider it
i dont exactly like promod being used to describe it because it's not a custom client (it's not even hard to install), but im not gonna stop people from saying it

I dislike the use of the term promod
I was shocked to be the first person to vote against a 'promod' in the strawpoll posted but I think this is just because when I think of the term promod that it would entail a custom client (which I don't think has been the general consensus)
If people are genuinely for a full on promod that would allow for extra fov etc that's an entirely different story to what's happening here, but it would be interesting to know people's thoughts on that either way
although on second thought a separate client could allow for A LOT of really useful things

A ‘promod’ client already exists...it’s called ‘tf2 classic’ and I couldn’t even get 11 other people to install it to mix

not exactly sure why so many people care what b4nny thinks and let him dictate the way things go in this community. we already had a similar discussion about pugs during the faceit vs pugchamp drama, b4nny said that it would split the community and kill it, and now literally everyone pugs inhouse/pugchamp while b4nny streams pubbing all day after scrims. I think it would be hilarious if we just left him to figure out what to do while we go off and enjoy playing the game how we want to, and not how he wants to.

i was previously mistaken about gunboats and hitting enemies, the effect is completely disabled if your splash hits one or more enemies, potentially doubling the self-damage you take (31 to 77 when grounded, 19 to 46 when in the air)
i guess i shouldnt really be getting in trouble for saying this, but the recent codebase leak is incredibly helpful, and i am very excited
sm_gunboats_always_apply has been implemented

It's just vanilla TF2 (bhopping is not on by default and is just a command like the smod plugins), there are no unlocks even in the game apart from the universally agreed good ones (xbow, ubersaw, kritz, gunboats, original, basher etc.) and some non-controversial tweaks such as no scout move speed on meds. It had all the QoL fixes from the past 13 years of the game as well and ran at usually 300-400 fps (i.e. a lot higher than the modern version). Turns out no one wanted to spend 2 hours downloading it.
I'm just trying to say that if people want a 'promod' they could theoretically play that but no one is realistically going to download it. It has to be in the current steam version of TF2 to be palatable otherwise people are not going to play it

wow, seems you played a version of tf2 classic that doesnt exist, the one i played 'https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197992659494/screenshots/?appid=sc_289247&sort=newestfirst&browsefilter=myfiles&view=imagewall", which had a bunch of beta unlocks that are broken/useless, bunnyhopping heavies on every server, instascope headshots, and even had cheaters. but it also had cool shit like FFA DM and the privilege of seeing 8channers and furries having an internet fight was worth it (i am jason grant), i guess all these people talking about shitshow shit like gunboats on demo are full of bs too eh. https://endchan.net/tf2c/
i actually played a 6s dmix in tf2 classic and i wouldnt recommend it at all tbh, you are having very rose tinted glasses.

Ramp bug is when rampsliding randomly fails, and there's normally an rng element to fall damage (multiplied by 0.8-1.2)

thats a map thing, not really something a plugin could be expected to fix.

Its both a map thing and an engine thing.
A plugin could be made (extremely hard and arguably not a very good idea anyway) or maps could be made better (stop adding unnecessary lips everywhere thx)

I'm trying to get this installed properly on my server and could use some help.

The sticky det command seems to work, but nothing else.
