#46 happy new year in TF2 General Discussion

Am I the only one that's compelled to suggest that thefragile should merely have responded with "you're fucking fat dude"

I mean it is the post directly above.

#32 PSA: 15 seconds of your time can help comp TF2 in TF2 General Discussion

I join peoples steam-stream notification groups with the understanding that I will be spammed by the promise of reasonably interesting content. It's the same as signing up for an academic listserv.

#23 help :< in Off Topic

Sorry to hear you're having trouble bsc hope things work out well/better.

Also, people with certain predispositions *can* have depression trigger by events or lifestyle choices (over consumption of alcohol on a consistent basis - extremely high stress over long periods of time) - I periodically experience that myself - it's also extremely common for folks in their early 20's and senior citizens.

#23 an argument in Off Topic

I remember when I was in 9th grade my mom got on me about how much time I was spending on the internet to which I promptly got up, said "ok I'm going out then, you're right, I'll just go hang out with (so-and-so whom she hated) maybe he'll have some pot today"

It worked :D

#17 Evil Geniuses: A Moment with djWHEAT in Off Topic

The funny thing is FPS' tend to have more resource requirements and also more impetus to acquire advanced stuff.

Almost everyone in this community has been sold on fancy mice, mouse pads, and 120 hz benq monitors. FPS games are from the point of peripherals companies and also generally hardware companies, a much bigger cash cow I'd imagine (besides those special MMO mice).

The problem is that the audience just isn't there for FPS games for whatever reason. CS is terrible for spectating, and from the little bit I watched of Shootmania it seemed to contain all of the worst things from the FPS genre for spectators. Tf2 has potential but we have to be able to put out high level content regularly and have a bit of luck with the camera person to boot in order to make an engaging product.

The other issue for us of course, is that *so many* people play mobas and starcraft competitively that they have a native audience waiting to watch all the top folks to learn their secrets - in much the same way most of tf2's top invite streamers get ~300 viewers which I would imagine are mostly comp tf2 people wanting to learn their secrets or see crazy stuff.

The best thing we can do for tf2 at the moment is just encourage more people to play in a comp environment, and to make the playing in said comp environment as easy as possible while providing them with resources to advance.

#8 Fully Charged Ep 13 Discussion and Feedback in TF2 General Discussion

I know I was in stream chat and was discussed, it's a shame I wasn't aware and able to participate in the show as a call in guest, but it wasn't a big major thing.

I wear two hats in this community, and I'm passionate about both of them, being a UGC admin for 6v6, and an ESEA player.

Killing and I had a discussions about ways to grow tf2 and to more closely align UGC and ESEA. I brought the idea to a few of the more upper-echelon admins of UGC, and didn't really receive the type of reception that I would have wanted. Killing and I had a few more discussions, I expressed my frustration with the lack of traction I'd managed to acquire. I should also point out that not every individual I brought the idea to unreceptive.

Nobody was like "Fuck esea" etc, but there was definitely a high degree of suspicion and mistrust on the part of some of my cohorts that I found to be unfortunate, and more or less considered the matter put to rest.

I told a few people at the height of my frustration (because this is something I really wanted to happen) and the stories have kinda got twisted around or expanded in places for dramatic effect I'm sure. It's a shame something couldn't have been worked out because it would have ultimately helped smooth the transition to ESEA that most of the top UGC 6v6 teams will make anyways.

The 6v6 community is so condensed anyhow that we all ultimately interact a lot as it is. I know of several UGC teams that made the transition to ESEA, but remain in UGC in some form, and I know of several ESEA players that are playing on UGC teams as a sort of mentor.

As far as CEVO, I have no qualms with CEVO, nor do I consider them to be a massive threat to the UGC 6v6 league, because ultimately, when I started there were 3 free leagues to choose from, and my team happened to pick UGC and CEVO and really had no trouble doing that - it was especially helpful for ESEA as it provided tons of match experience, and got us in the habit of playing 2 matches a week.

#16 Free Metro2033 in Off Topic

You can tell this is a game where they made the tactical decision to flesh out the earlier bits way better than the later parts (since statistically people rarely ever play the ending bits of games - which is why the endings are always shit). But the first 1/2 to 2/3rds is pure awesome.

Glad I could add it to my library - THQ very rarely totally lets me down.

#11 Freezing/Stuttering in TF2 General Discussion

My game started running like hell a few months back, and it turned out that my tf2 folder had begun to suffer from an update bug that caused every update to save itself in the Tf2 folder somewhere - my tf2 folder had gone well beyond 16 gigs before I had caught it and well, that's a lot of crap to wade through. I have no idea why it does it, but it does happen on occasion that the folder just grows out of control.

It could also be that you have some process that kicks on periodically and completely saps your system of resources. Spyware/malware scans etc, or actual spyware.

#15 What good unlocks are there that we can use S13? in TF2 General Discussion

Really, as far as weapons that are allowed, but aren't used often, I think the one that probably has the most viable use is the buff banner on last attacks. It's so easy to spam in, get the requisite damage, and then uber in the buff bannered soldier. It's so rare that a team pushes out on you based solely on the fact that somebody is spamming them in order to get a buff banner you may as well lol.

#1 Youtube listing in Requests

While I realize streaming is the major emphasis on this website, and forgive me if this has already been attempted (I looked back 3-4 pages and didn't see anything). But we really ought to have a listing somewhere for folks to post their youtube channels.

#33 have to present in school in Off Topic

Here are some things that I do when I give presentations - I've been in plays and other small things, but I've been in front of rather large audiences in my time.... and it gets really stressful.

- Put some object in your left hand - not something big, something like a quarter or nickle - fiddle with it, it's a decent outlet for minor anxiety.

- If you're in high school barely anybody will listen anyways so it's no biggy.

- Try and channel your nervous energy into enthusiasm all my best work has come when I felt like I was gonna throw up.

- Go first if they ask for volunteers that way you can just get it over with and you don't have to sit and baste in anxiety.

- If you forget what you were going to say, don't panic - nobody knows what you're supposed to say except you, so just roll with it or move on to a part you can remember.
