Ok, you should go stomp some nerds in this server. I heard it runs something called MGEMod and I'm pretty sure everybody who plays it is a big pussy. You should show them what's up. I look forward to seeing your videos of this.

Congrats, you're probably the greatest pub player known to man. Those 12 year olds never saw it coming.

#7 LF Demoman Mentor in Mentoring
WhippedCreamJonesyMcFlyYou don't need to have a specific level of skill to find a team. There's not some test that you have to pass before any team will even consider you, you just have to find people that are willing to play with you.
thing is it's not easy to find people willing to play with you if your skill level isn't up to par. All my friends are better than me at this game, so I'm only a backup on their team... just sayin

I guarantee you will be able to find a spot on a UGC iron team. That division exists precisely for people in your situation, starting out in competitive TF2.

#15 ideas for a java application in Off Topic
mikejsWrite a raytracer.

The theory involved in making a direct illumination renderer is really surprisingly simple and the maths required is not terribly hard. You also end up with flashy as fuck screenshots to take after doing not a lot of work which is going to look more impressive than a crap game or calculator. Here is a nice tutorial.

Additionally, if you actually enjoy working on it, state of the art renderers (Renderman [Pixar], Arnold [every film in the past 5+ years], Maxwell/Indigo [architectural renderers], etc) are built on these foundations. You can follow the ideas all the way through your undergraduate degree and into research as part of a grad program or working for Disney if you want to.

disclaimer i literally just did a GI renderer for my thesis

I only just wrote a ray tracer and I'm a senior in CS. I'm not saying it's impossible for a self-motivated person to understand, but OP is a senior in high school. Unless he has a rock-solid understanding of trig & basic linear algebra, I don't know if that's a skill-appropriate suggestion.

A text-based card game (uno, poker, etc) or an anagram solver (probably too simple, but whatever)

#8 PC in Hardware
Oblivionagethe i5 has stronger cores and that is more important for gaming. it does not matter if the amd has more cores its core for core performance is shit and most people agree. rays has one and he'd vouch for me on this one. Especially for tf2 (a game that uses no more than 2 cores) it is so useless to have 8 cores. the i5 is fine for streaming too. just look it up dude theres like 50 threads on this forum about this type of shit

Just because AMDs underperform for the single use case of TF2 (which happens to be applicable to rays because he streams TF2 and plays it competitively) doesn't mean that they're shit for every use case. In fact, other than TF2, the AMD is a nearly universally better choice.

#1 Spotty site reliability? in Bug Reports

Myself and some others have been having some trouble with the site's spotty reliability today (and occasionally outright refusal to load). Is this perhaps an issue with the host or something beyond their control?

#2 Looking for WiFi Extender help. in Hardware

WiFi extenders and powerline adapters will kill your latency.

Get an external USB WiFi adapter like this one instead:
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN822N-Wireless-External-Antennas/dp/B00416Q5KI/

It'll boost your signal tremendously.
