The first tutorial video I watched about tf2 was "how to play engi" for some reason.
I have a vague idea of what map I forst played, it's either pl_fronteir or gpit.

I was still in college, it was the summer, went over to a buddy's house and he said "you HAVE to see this game; you played tfc right?"
He then showed me tf2 on 2fort (hey there wasn't much else in those days).
I immediately waited to get a job, and then my first purchase was tf2 :D
I played spy on 2fort, because disguising as the other team and running around with them, and them not noticing, is pretty much the coolest thing ever. My first 30 hours of tf2 were on spy.. Then I never played spy again lol.

3 and a half years ago on a 24/7 lowgrav custom map pub server. The pyro update had just happened so I picked it as my first class. Pretty sure I had a kd of like 20:40 haha.
2fort pub, as scout, couldn't move or hit shit, ragequit because i was being spawncamped and had no idea what was going on, didn't even get to see anything other than the dropdown spawn and the battlements
one of my friends from CSS made me buy TF2 so I got it for around $20
when I first joined his server, it was some low gravity map that was a ship
he taught me how to taunt kill

My younger brother had been playing for a while and I thought I'd try it out while he went to get some food. Got a 3k as a heavy in the corridor on the right that leads to the courtyard in 2fort, and I felt damn good at the game.
I had joined a server that had 2fort, and upon joining i selected spy. I walked towards the exit of spawn and that's when I saw it. A spray, a spray on the wall of a half-pony half-man thing that was having sex with another thing of the same species. I disabled sprays after that, then quit because engie is overpowered. I started playing once I knew what mge was
before TF2 all i ever played were FPS Games were you could one shot people with basicly any gun.
So my first experience was pretty shit, I couldn't belive there isn't a class with a proper SMG. It was either be slow as fuck or die instantly. And Sniper, what a joke, hit so many people, no one died.

i played sniper on the skial badwater #2 server and i remember being so excited when i made it onto the top 3 and got 8 points in one life. i was so hyped when i got headshots (which was very rare at the time). that server is still my home server :D
I played sniper on hoodoo. Got destroyed by a spy :/
241 hours of Prophunt, followed by about 1000 hours of random mods / orange.
This is my excuse for being shit.

I played at least 30 hours on an achievement/idle server (yes, played) before I realised there were actual other maps
I played easy bots on koth_nucleus with the huntsman, and that is still the best tf2 memory I have, and I've had some pretty great ones, I just can't feel that happiness and amazement that I did the first time I played.
I used to play TF2 on cracked Russian servers oh gawd no
I remember going Engy on Dustbowl.
I didn't know how to upgrade buildings so I thought hitting the top grey part of the sentry would upgrade it

First time playing tf2 pc was a cracked version on orange. Think it was a euro server so i had like 200 ping.
This doesn't quite count as my *first* experience with TF2 but I remember I wanted to become premium right away, so after I found my first crate I bought a key and unboxed a Strange Scattergun and have been using it ever since so it has a lot of sentimental value to it.
As for my first server, was probably just a regular CTF 2Fort (I absolutely love CTF in most games; TF2 is no exception even though I don't play it much anymore.) However, I will note that my first memory is playing on Gravelpit a lot, I still really like that map.
TL;DR - Gravelpit

I'm pretty sure I joined a CP_Orange server and selected medic. Don't ask me why I chose medic, but I did. All I was doing was battle medicing, figuring that I only could revive people when they were fragged. I was confused when my medigun wasn't doing anything on ragdolls. It wasn't until like 3 games later I realized I had to consistently heal people while they were alive and I wasn't supposed to battle medic. Kind of ruined the class for me so I tried out the other classes.
My first server was a Valve 24/7 Attack/Defense maps, with the rotation dustbowl(which was my favorite), gravel pit and gorge. I started there playing as full time sniper and some pyro. I played in that server for, like, months.
All I remember was that I spawned scout on badlands and after running around for a bit I came to the conclusion that TF2 was a stupid game and that I didn't like it. I then happened to give it another go about a month later and for some reason I really enjoyed it that 2nd time, and then I gradually fell in love with the game. I honestly can't remember why I hated it the first time I played it but here I am now with 2000+ hours and still having a blast 8)
I was a TFC player, playing a bit of fortress forever at the time. TF2 had been released for about a month, and a lot of my old TFC clan mates were playing the game.
An old clanny eventually persuaded me to buy the game, and I downloaded it. My download was at about 90% and he asked me if I wanted to play in a match. While I waited for the download I researched the 'Scout' as my mate told me that is the class I'd be playing, then I sorted out my mouse settings and joined the server.
It was a PCW on cp_well, against 4Kings (went on to become Dignitas). The team that went on to win 6 out of the first 7 seasons of ETF2L. It was a brutal experience as I'd never even loaded up a public server before but still, I became hooked.
The team if I remember correctly was Mambo #5, with players such as Wlv, Joske, Fiend and co. It was a good experience :)

On one of those free weekends around 2008, I logged in to a server with a crazy custom map with no textures and close spawns, it was a spam fest, but I got like 10 achievements in 15 minutes and I thought, hey this actually looks cool!
It was only a year later in 2009 I bought the game and first time I remember playing something was engie on 2fort, man having stuff that killed for you was a blast at the time.

Well when I first started, I went like 2:18 in a pub so I grinded on the private bot pubs that you can make for a year or so. My friend eventually convinced me to do pubs again.
ctf_2fort
"I'll play Medic, it doesn't look like he has to aim, and this is my first FPS, so I have no aiming skills."
To this day I can only aim Syringes and Bolts.

Badwater, went sniper :3
Believe it or not, I was a better sniper then, than now..

I saw my brother playing this cool looking cartoon shooter game, coming from a world of Call of Duty, Battlefield and Medal of Honour it was a different style and appealing. Watched him play for ages, then next day played on the same map. It was called ctf_sunsettown and I played for 3 hours, it was incredibly fun on this map doing Capture the Flag, infiltrating their base and grabbing the intel and capturing it, like a hero. Mostly played Scout and Spy that day, started playing other maps after that great cos I couldn't find sunsettown again. Tried to find the map a few weeks later, found a map named cp_lazytown and got addicted to Demoman spamming and Engineer turtling, joined a community and met amazing people there I still play with after 5 years, like polk.
I wouldn't still play if it wasn't for the community and people I have met in this game.

First map was Hydro. Played in a 24/7 server with awesome regulars. It was called rG/raged Gamers.
First server was a valve A/D on Gorge, where I got swindled out of my earbuds for a kritzkrieg within the first few minutes and I didn't know any better for like 2 or 3 months.
