Hello,
I'm considering purchasing a new laptop/tablet and would like it to be 120 hz. Currently leaning towards sager, but I'd like to know some more offerings. I would also like it to be somewhat portable. Price is a non-issue but ideally $2000 or less.
Thanks :)

PacifistThere are 120hz tablets?

why not get a strong laptop and hook it up to a 120hz external monitor or is that not portable enough

A guy in my team has a laptop with 144hz monitor, I'll see if I can get the name of it off of him.
Edit: It's a Lenovo Y500

Toshiba Qosmio. I think there's some older version that also has 120hz.

Fuck laptops, for 2k you can buy a much stronger computer with a 120hz screen and what not.
I would be happy to carry around my mid tower daily over a laptop :p

I never understood the point of using a 'gaming" laptop over a PC. Sure room could be an issue, but PCs really don't take up that much room. I mean it's not like your going to get any real battery life on a beefed out laptop that is burning your balls from the heat

buy a cheap ass laptop (150-200)
then use the remaining $ for a good gaming pc with 120 hz mon

Get a $500 or so Laptop, will work for gaming. And then a PC for $1500. Unless there is a major issue with transportation. You can get the Asus VG248QE for 144 hz, and then still have $1250 for the rest of the build.

Google it homie. Or newegg it. Be proactive, there are so many tools at your disposal - found something on my first try.
Don't know why you and other people here seek out a laptop specifically for gaming unless you have some REALLY specific circumstances.

I got a good gaming pc running 3 144 hz monitors. The reason I want the laptop is because I travel a lot for work and would still like to be able to play games at hotels/camps. I really don't want to lug a monitor around with my equipment and clothes.

EDIT: Personally I won't go for a 120hz laptop, but you have a good reason and I'd go for the Asus G55vw (as far as I know, with the RS71 you can extend the RAM until 32gb when with the DS71 you can't go further 16gb).

I was also wondering if someone has tried out the razor edge pro tablet. It looks kind of neat.

I picked up an Alienware M17x R3 about 2 years ago via a Dell business account that yields hefty discounts. It would probably topple the $2000 request without the discounts, but it's been great, and it can run TF2 pubs at well over 500 fps in 1080p with 120hz. The non-gaming battery life is a little over 2 hours. I am fairly certain it is weighs less than a mack truck, but I'd have to measure to be sure.

Now that you mention it... I'm pretty sure I get 15% off dell purchases through my company. Definitely need to look into this.
Thanks for the responses so far guys, appreciate it.

I picked up an "open box" Toshiba Qosmio (their gaming line) on newegg. By "open box" it really meant that the original box was damaged in shipping and it had to be reboxed. 120hz laptop for $1200, awesome purchase. Look into the Qosmio line. It's cheaper than the asus or Alienware ones, and they are very good.

Agreed - i had M17x R3 with a 580m GTX with the 120hz screen and it was an absolute monster. Alot of people make fun of Alienware now just because dell owns them, but they are still solid machines (just horribly overpriced if you buy brand new).
I will say however, the best bang for your buck is the Asus G53JW-3D. I bought one off ebay for $650. It has an i7, 460m gtx, and a 15' 120hz screen. As far as i know, it's the only 15' screen laptop with a 120hz screen. The only downside, if it bothers you, is the resolution is capped at 1366x768. It did absolutely everything i wanted it to do as far as gaming is concerned, which was play source games smoothly.

Phaser that sounds exactly what I am looking for. I'll be home next week. If I manage to purchase one and it works as you described I'll buy you a new monitor or gpu.
Cheers.

Pine,
Here's one on ebay right now in case you want to look at it

You can still find one cheaper than that if you're patient. I played TF2 on it at medium settings and even on 32 man servers i stayed above 100fps. I went ahead and used chris FPS and then i never dropped under 150. I also liked it because as i mentioned it was the only 15' 120hz laptop i know of, so it didn't feel like i was lugging around a suitcase (as with the Alienware). It's still bigger and heavier than your standard 15' laptop, but that's because of the fan design (and technology inside), which works very well i might had.
If you want a laptop just to play source games with 120hz, than this is it. If you want to a 120hz laptop that will play both source and next gen games (BF4, GTA V etc) then i'd go with an Alienware or Sager/Malibal, as you can get 120hz and customize the graphics card. Just be aware you will pay your max which is $2000...see link below.

Hmm I don't know if I can handle medium settings :)
I originally was dead set on sager but The only way to ship them into Canada is through reflexnotebook.com. They use UPS for shipment which blows for us because they charge a large fee at the border.
I might have to go with alienware for several reasons. They have very good warrantee, I'm fairly certain I'll get a discount. The asus machines I've had in the past tended to have driver/cooling issues.
I'll have another look at that asus rig, might just buy it anyways. Thanks for your help.

Pine beetle I don't know where you live, but if you live in the Vancouver area there's a company in Point Roberts called tsb shipping http://tsbshipping.com/ that can help you with your shipping problem. Basically you just set up an account (which is free) and then you ship all your american shit to them and then go across the border and pick it up for like 10 bucks. Price depends on the weight of the package but you can look at the exact prices on their website. Its essentially a pay as you go american po box that you can ship any size package you want to. That way you don't have to deal with all the border fees and stuff. If you don't live in the Vancouver area then this isn't really of use to you, but maybe you can find a similar thing near your area.
Edit: I just looked at the site and it says its 3.50 for a package under 15 pounds so it's even less then I said it was.

So I spent a ton of time looking into gaming laptops before I eventually just went back to using a desktop.
Not even joking, Alienware. Don't buy it directly from Dell, check brand new on ebay. There's some disgustingly good deals to be had.
