Logitech is no longer replacing the g400s even if you still have the warranty-- they instead offer to upgrade you to the G402

I looked on Amazon and on Amazon.ca it said it was discontinued by manufacturer. Also if you look on the US page http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G400s-910-003589-Optical-Gaming/dp/B00BCEK2LA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425876026&sr=8-1&keywords=g400s it says "there is a newer version of this item".

Gnite sweet prince u will be missed :(

edit: from my email--

Your receipt is valid however, your product is no longer available for replacement. We offer to upgrade you to a G402 Hyperion Fury Gaming Mouse. Please let us know if you would like us to proceed with the replacement.

Rest in peace indeed. Is the g402 anything like the g400 at all, besides the naming convention? Just wondering what mouse to go after after my g400s inevitably dies at some point.

I got the g402 this way a while ago. It doesn't look similar at all but after I disabled the 3 new buttons it actually feels very similar and I like it a lot. Also they reinforced the cord a lot which has made it really stiff, but it hasn't broken so I guess it's worth it.

The grip looks pretty similar. Still don't get why they discontinued the MX518 style with optical sensor (unless the number of RMA's because of their shitty cords was too high). I remember the g5/g500 has the exact same grip but was laser.

Gunbladelogitech products look too much like cyborgs these days. nty

They still function in pretty much the same way, and honestly their form factor is very similar they're just made in a different style (cyborg-esque) so they look a lot more different than they are. My g502 might look like it should be going pew-pew but it still feels pretty much like a mouse, except with a nice thumbrest. Even the extra buttons are designed to stay out of the way, if you don't need them you can just not use them. The 'sniper' button is a bit of an exception, it's around where your thumb rests, but it's actually really easy to not press accidentally after you get used to it.

g402 feels mostly the same
cord is heavier
grip is slightly more narrow
scroll wheel is definitely different
and it's max control speed is insane

source: used 1 for a week to prove to a friend this mouse was fine (he thought i had him order some pos)

luckily my g400 and g400s both still work perfectly fine.

I own one, its decent overall and the grip is a little different (less wide/less room to put your ring/pinky finger) but the extra buttons (particularly the extra one by the thumb rest) are really wack/unnecessary

I've been using the G402 since July December, previously I used the G400s, G400, MX518, G5, and MX510 (going back in time).

The only complaint I have is that it's easy to bump the dpi up and down buttons with the edge of your index finger, it took me a few months to get used to holding my fingers closer to the center of the mouse. The DPI buttons almost feel like an edge you can use to move the mouse when moving quickly.

If needed you can set the mouse to have only one dpi so the buttons don't do anything.

Otherwise it's been a really great mouse!

After coming from my g400, I can honestly say it feels nothing alike, and instead makes my fingers hurt after 1 week of use. The dpi button they put on the side is precisely where I am used to putting my thumb finger, and I don't like the fact that it makes you hold it a certain way. The left and right click is also too ridiculously easy to press, and I found myself pressing it accidentally every 5 seconds from the way I hold the mouse, but I got used to this in a little. All in all, a terrible mouse with too many unnecessary buttons/features. Logitech is totally going to crap. I returned the thing

"The left and right click is also too ridiculously easy to press"
I do this all the time with the RMB on both g400 and g400s I wouldn't single out the g402 for this

"The dpi button they put on the side is precisely where I am used to putting my thumb finger"
If the issue was changing the DPI you could've easily disabled the function all together. Now if having a button their period annoyed you that is a valid, but subjective complaint.

"Logitech is totally going to crap."
If you mean the design, maybe.
But the internal hardware of their gaming mice are phenomenal the vast majority of the time.

My biggest gripe with logitech has always been the random buttons they throw all over their mice

I wanted to try the 402 but i saw the scope dpi button on the side of the mouse and i decided it was the dumbest thing i've ever seen so i bought something else instead

i definitely agree.
my vote goes to simplicity, rather than to these dumb gimmicks.
just the regular 5 buttons is all i want. who really needs anything else, anyway? (except for maybe mmo players?)

+1 to zowie

edit: and +1 to zowie for keeping it driverless

Yeah, I did in fact do that first thing after getting the mouse. Just the button in general hurt my finger from the lack of thumb space they took away. That's the main thing I liked about the g400 in the first place.

I've been through FOUR g400's in the past year. All the of them developed the same chord/tracking issue. I can happily say I've safely switched over and ordered myself a Zowie.

You didn't do any of the advice on taping the cord down or getting a cord bungee did you?

Cause I used a g400 for about 2 years while playing competitively and for the past 7 months have been using it almost daily at my work (I have an office job so it see nearly 40hrs a week of use now). No issues. I have been using a g400s for almost a year now for competitive. No issues.

Everything else you said is perfectly reasonable. I own a couple zowie mice myself some of which have my own nitpick issues sensor get dirty really easy, older/maybe new ones too zowie mice have horrible input latency on LMB and RMB, 1000Hz is really jittery (fixed with newer ones if I recall), and the weird DPI steps.

The fact that you have to do that makes it semi-shit quality. The problems been around since the mx518 but logitech never bothered to fix it.

It wasn't something to necessarily "fix" it was a design choice to have an ultralight cable (which has it's own set of pros/cons), that they believed a lot of users would prefer. I happen to be one.

tbh though all mice have 1 really stupid flaw or at least used too.

haha.. there's an incredibly long list of complaints about zowie their mice, and zowie their warranty.
and nobody can deny the issues with the older logitech mice their cords, but at least they've been (and still are) reliable when it comes to warranty/RMA.

i've used a couple of these older logitech mouse for years, without problems. you really think that's luck?
you could've taped the cable to something in a clever way, or otherwise just spend a few dollars to get a stronger cable.

my point is that it's silly to think that you are safe with zowie, but not with logitech.
the cable issue on the older logitech models has been known forever and, on top of that, it's easy/cheap to fix. the reported problems on zowie mice were not, however.
fortunately, the newer models/batches of zowie their mice seem to be alot more reliable.

I've been using a G400 for the last 2 and a half years and I haven't had any problems with the chords (I even threw it in my bag without any kind of protection when I traveled for a couple of months and wanted to play while abroad), using it for at least 40~50 hours per week... And I didn't do anything to "fix" it lol
