Chess, you can take it all the way from casual stuff on your phone to actual clubs/competitive/etc, and there's tons of depth to study.

Do you enjoy reading? A backlit Kindle and a long reading list will keep you occupied for ages. The time never feels wasted either.

Bartending/mixology if you like alcohol. Or brewing. Or experiment with cooking and recipes.

Bob Ross videos and paint. 2D or 3D computer art.

Also putting in another plug for walking; it's healthy and you can explore and it feels good to get out in the weather.

Piano/keyboard -- get an electric keyboard and learn a bunch of movie and pop songs, or classical stuff, or whatever floats your boat.

TwiggyAdmirablethe301stspartanAdmirableI know it's tame, but I really love walking. I try to do 4-10 miles every morning.wtf that's like 3-4 hours of walking, mornings don't even last that long
I average about 4.2 miles per hour and I try to leave the house about 7:30 AM

How tall are your legs to walk that fast?

I'm pretty short and I used to pull off this pace while carrying instrument and schoolbag - quite punishing on hills, but you get used to it. Most people just walk really fucking slowly.

if you like fiffling around with computers, then offer to fix people's computers for cheap, or maybe buy defect computers, replace the parts and sell them for profit. I dont do it myself, but I know a couple who do, and its pretty cool to be able to earn money by enjoying your hobby.

start reading. Can be something slightly educational like philosophy, politics, geography etc. , maybe some crime fiction, horror, the most autistic japanese cartoons you can find etc etc etc - all possibilities are open. But don't just stop there, try to get to know some people (irl or online) that like reading the same kind of things as you so you can recommend each other books and talk about them.

pick up an instrument. Doesnt have to be super ambitious practice 24/7, plenty of people noodle around on their instruments for fun too. Just dont be that guy who ends up playing Wonderwall three times in a row at the campfire to impress girls. If you wanna be able to bring your instrument around, then absolutely pick something like guitar, blues harp etc. See if you can out what you want before you invest too much money and time in it, or you'll just be stuck with an instrument youre suddenly tired of and wanna sell.

serial killer is also an option, but its illegal so be careful.

Chainmail.
It's relaxing, takes up lots of time, and you end up with some pretty cool stuff.
I took up making chainmail back in July and I've so far made a coif, mail shirt, several bracelets and necklaces, and I'm currently working on my second shirt.
You can buy pre-made rings or you could make your own, which is what I do :)

Just relax in front of a movie/video and start working on it.

woodworking is super nice if you can find somewhere to do it. took it every year in highschool and just getting to work on my own projects for an hour every day was so nice and relaxing. i don't know where there's a woodshop anymore tho so i stopped doing it. also has the added bonus of you getting free christmas gifts that people will fucking love

I'd say do something social, imo no matter what you do if you do it with other people it's better.

You could try picking up beatboxing. It's inexpensive, and you can both spend a lot of time on it at once or do it while doing something else.

I picked up cars as a hobby about a year and a half ago since all my hobbies involved me staying inside my house all day, and I wanted to do something new. In the beginning, it was daunting since it was a rather expensive hobby do with track day costs, tires, tools and equipment and everything in between. It was also a completely social hobby, which was different then hanging out with my usual types of nerds/geeks. The thing that I've enjoyed the most out of it is being struck into a conversation with complete strangers out of nowhere and talking on end about what we have planned for our cars and what we want out of them. It's helped me become much more comfortable with talking to people that I would have otherwise never interacted with.

I mean its only something that you'd do for 20/30 minutes every few days depending on your facial hair growth, but for the past 2 years or so I've been doing wet shaving as a hobby.

Basically, thats using a safety razor or straight razor instead of a traditional 3-5 blade cartridge razor. You also use premium shaving soaps and brushes to create your own lather, and use some after shave balm to finish it off. Takes much longer than a regular shave, but its meant to be a more relaxing, pampering experience. I personally use a straight but I'm soon going to get a safety razor as well. Its WAY more economical in the long run compared to cartridge razors, better for your skin, and makes shaving fun imo. Might sound pretty dorky but I actually look forward to shaving when the time comes around.

Definitely not for everyone, and you'll end up cutting yourself a good bit it first, but once you get used to it its like riding a bike. Also, shaving with a straight razor makes you feel pretty bad ass.

Look up wet shaving on youtube, theres a pretty big community for it there

  • Read more books - especially non fiction IMO (history, science, etc).
  • Play a sport and join a local club
  • Learn an instrument
  • If you have money, I know a few people that really enjoy painting WH40K. It's expensive and time consuming, but they seem to like it (they don't really play anymore - but they enjoy painting and all).
  • Find some good podcasts (e.g. http://www.dancarlin.com/)

Since you mentioned life is short and you want to do more stuff that makes you happy, I would recommend finding stuff that you will look back on and be proud about.

Sit down and ask yourself, "How can I make myself a better person/human?"

Brainstorming my own answers on paper got me to:
-Get back into shape by getting back into the gym and by running.
-Learn a language (on my 3rd foreign language now).
-Read books, specifically history or nonfiction books about interesting things in life (currently reading about why the Middle East is so fucked up).
-Drink less alcohol, more coffee.
-Eat out less, make my own healthier food.

I know my answers may not be yours, but it's an awesome feeling to be able to look back at how much better I am as a person now because of the fun things I have done in the past. Just sit down with a pencil and paper and brainstorm. The nice thing about these activities is that they don't have to cost much money at all.
