Seeing how the Pyro update is right up the corner, and there will (hopefully) be a lot of MM changes, what do you guys think the actual format for MM should be? (Obviously 6s but I mean the ruleset)
Also, I consider that MM should be the bridge between the casual players and our actual comp format, for these options, assume all the broken weapons have been balanced, and that maps can be selected when queuing.
So , in your opinion, what should the MM format be?
- An exact copy paste of our 6s format (includes ruleset and map-pool, excludes weapon bans).
- 6s, but class limit of 2 (Even tho 2 meds is broken).
- 6s, but class limit of 1.
- 6s, but with a more diverse map pool where the least played maps get rotated out for others. This includes gamemodes like A/D, PL and KOTH.
- A mix of two of these.

Best way to set it up with the attack defense support thing would be a 2,1,1 class limit. Getting rid of the config restrictions would be nice as well. All other changes would be placement matches, elo, and making the ranks mean something. Additionally, there are unlocks that are must haves to play. At least in comp, you should be able to use all the unlocks.

format: 6v6
ruleset: best of 5. Current system is good but best of 3 is a bit too short.
class limits: 2
Medic rebalance would be needed. Perhaps medics shouldn't be able to overheal eachother
map pool: Honestly at this point I wouldn't care if they throw in random pl/koth/ad maps. Back when comp MM came out I grinded it for a while and the 5cp gets boring very quickly. It's not terrible but it needs some variation because in the end it's just a pub and I don't want to play scout 24/7
I just want them to remove the forced graphic settings. Sure I'll use viewmodels, sure I'll play some badwater, but please make it play at more than 8 fps.
Their explanation at the time was "we want streams to look good" but there's only like 5 people that ever streamed comp MM and they all quit playing it because of the terrible frames and nobody else wanted to play because of it either

I wouldn't mind cl2, but they really need to sort out unlock balance. Mainly stuff like Wrangler which can make attacking awful, most prominently on a/d and pl. Also, we need map selection. I don't want to play Swiftwater.

Thanks, Im looking for answers like these.
I feel like bo3 should stay on the lower level matches, specially considering quitters are much more frecuent on lower ranks. However currently I think bo5 only kicks in if the average rank is 13, which is too high. It could probably be lowered to something like 7 or 8.
For PL maps where the stopwatch is what decides the winner, I think its harder to decide. Just playing the map twice (Attack and then defend) is already long enough, being forced to play the map 6 whole times to decide a bo3 just wouldn't work, a match of >2 hours should only be a thing that happens in tournaments. So for PL it should only be 2 rounds (bo1 technically).
For A/D, its also stopwatch like PL. However its much faster than PL, so I think lower ranks should just be like PL (Attack and then defend). And for higher ranks bo3 should work, it shouldn't be too long in maps like Gorge or G-pit.
And koth will work perfectly fine with both bo3 and bo5.
And yes, making medics not being able to heal each other could work. But it feels like a very hacky way to balance something as important as medic, then again unless they do complex class limits as we do, there wouldn't be another solution.

Yeah I said in the post that when choosing we should assume weapons have been balanced out and that we can choose map. Sadly I don't think the former will happen, at least not with all the weapons.

Yes, then again they need to figure out a way so this can't be abused. This also incentivates hackers to be even more common, which already is a huge issue. This already happens in MvM to some degree but robots aren't gonna make reddit posts so its not as noticed as in Comp MM.

Just going to add it here again. If Valve really wanted to make MM good, it would have done so long ago. There has already been given enough ideas for how to fix it, but Valve has shown an unbelievable ability to ignore the people who has played and developed a comp system for a decade now. So why discuss it further?

are hour limits in valve mm asking a bit too much? i feel like this is a good opportunity to leverage the pub levels they implemented for no reason whatsoever. They could grant unlocks with each level, maybe unlock comp play once someone has played enough to have all the weapons.

Cl2 in offensive slot, cl1 in defense and support
Easily understandable and isn't aids, its pretty optimal

How wold you guys react if valve thinks 7v7>6v6 and it becomes their priority
How wold you guys react if valve thinks 7v7>6v6 and it becomes their priority
I don't see why not just copy paste the current format that has been tested for years, like what's the problem with ETF2L/ESEA ruleset (maybe with the exception of the timelimit of 30:00 and winlimit of 5 point difference - instead of that it can be BO3 or BO5, I think it's a more suitable solution for matchmaking)?
If the maps can be selected I don't see a problem with a few additional non-5CP/KotH maps, maybe just divide a map pool into active duty (5CP and KotH) and a reserve pool (A/D and other gamemodes) like in CS:GO.

considering that there are currently a total of five teams signed up on rgl.gg and the gamemode involves banning weapons and restricts class limits, there is probably a 0% chance of them doing that. if they did, the competitive community would literally lose all hope in valve and the game would probably die. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for them to take the prolander set up out of that, though.

The only reason other alternatives than just copy-pasting our format are discussed is that there are huge gaps between Casual and our 6s. Having MM to be a bit closer to Casual while still maintaining the 6s core would be pretty beneficial. One way to do it would be less restrictive or less complex Class limits (while obviously having a class limit to begin with), even tho there should be a "fix" for having 2 medics. Another way which is probably the most preferred one is to have a much bigger map pool in MM, while also allowing maps to be selected when queuing. This would mean the least played maps could get rotated out for different ones.
Besides, playing some A/D or PL in 6s MM could be novel done once in a while and could break the monotony of only playing 5cp

limits of 2 for attacking classes and 1 for defense and support classes
only 5cp/koth maps
30 minute timelimit (the idiots like flame who argued for no timelimit have long since ditched this game for overwatch), first to 5. This format only has issues at the absolute highest level of organised play, there won't be any issues with pushing with rando pubbers. The bigger issue will be getting them to stop feeding all the time.
Like, there's no reason to change anything away from our ruleset except for class limits just for simplicity's sake.

There is no way to really stop people from hacking. Reports would yield a shitton of false positives considering the huge skill gap this game has, and the current bans from reports are very slow. VAC is completely out of the TF Team control afaik.
