The roamer is often considered to be the weakest standard class/role in the cookie cutter line up. They're considered to be pretty unimportant, even less than a scout. If this is true then shouldn't people be asking valve for a buff?
I think the best way to buff roamers would be to buff the gunboats by reverting the nerf so that they only take 10dmg or whatever it was per jump. I'm sorry if gunboats were indeed OP before the nerf. I stopped playing tf2 for a long time just after the soldier/demo update so I wasn't really around for it.
In HL soldier's usually roam and are considered to be one of the most unimportant classes so a buff would probably good for HL too.
Should something be done about those poor roamers or are they "underpowered" in a way that it makes the game better?

have you ever watched zbryan do fast roll outs, or just how some soldiers jump and create openings, or just go balls out aggressive? if you played against invite teams on a regular basis the last thing on your mind would be man these guys can really use a buff

You're definitely right, defy. Its just kinda confusing how I always hear that roamer is the worst class in 6v6, but theyre pretty much the only ones capable of pulling off super retarded aggressive maneuvers to make a medic pop.
By the way, I want to make it clear that I don't think that roamers need a huge buff, just a small one.

i agree with you that roamer's are probably the "weakest" role in the line-up in terms of damage output, but i don't think they deserve a buff. the classes aren't meant to be balanced individually.
just because there are good scouts who don't miss often that can destroy roamers doesn't mean the gunboats should be buffed. both teams get a roamer, and trying to make the most out of your role is a challenge (against good scouts, atleast). infact, learning the right timings to jump/be aggressive are what makes a roamer skilled.

I think that's mostly claimed by angry scouts with bad movement who get the ground shot out from under them.

roaming soldiers are expendable not necessarily weak. it's true, soldier without heals is a pretty poor fighting class. that's why roamers do utility work (distract, flank, make easy picks, take enemy health packs, etcetc).

Who has been telling you Roamer is bad?
They don't score a lot of points, but they're often the deciding factor in close games.

if there's any doubt of the role that a good roamer can have on a team just look at how relic carried us this season.
seriously.

Thank you for minus fragging the shit out of me and making me feel stupid enlightening me with knowledge that I can use to improve my understanding of the metagame. I will stop thinking of roamers as a shitty class and instead, think of them like a more generally applicable pick class. Roamers arent just shitty airborne cannon fodder thrown at the enemy medic hoping to make him pop. They're valiant, selfless warriors willing to sacrifice their life for the greater good of their team.

roamer impressiveness is pretty proportional to how heals are distributed. people like seeing frags and correlate it with usefulness
i havent watched the game much as of late, but I considered daveac to play the typical role the best. that could just be the banny factor since pretty much anyone on his team has a tendency to look impressive
regardless he received little love when his play seemed to have much more intelligence backing it than others

The roamer gets a bad rap - I'll make life easy by not reiterating things that have already been said.
One thing that fascinates me about the position of roamer in general, is how stylistically different any given one roamer can be from another - while both could still be effective.
Roaming is sometimes a thankless job, and sometimes you get to be the hero who gets that crucial pop, gets a bagillion assists as the scouts kill things, or hides in forward as sniper and drops a medic on LAN.
Teams can do virtually anything they want to do with a roamer and have it be effective as long as the rest of the team knows how to play with the given situation (a more heal-heavy roamer, a shotgun roamer, a suicide double jumping roamer, a hidey-spot roamer, a constantly off classing roamer, jump around in circles health pack lord, etc etc).
They also can hold down doors pretty well, which, while it won't do a damn thing for their stats, can allow teams to stack scouts onto their combo, which can have great results.
Most of the times when roamer comes off as being pitiful, is when he/she has managed to get themselves into some situation that they shouldn't be in or when teams attempt to utilize them incorrectly by throwing them into situations where they can't do anything beyond shoot two rockets and die and his/her teammates can't/won't follow up.

some roamers bait their team
some teams bait their roamers
both of these are acceptable to an extent
generally at 200 hp soldier with rockets only is considered the lowest-value in terms of player value

As a roamer, I disagree. I personally can make tons of plays with the current toolset. I started roaming when shotty roamer was only roamer, and when gunboats came out I was one of the only people around me that relied on them more than the shotgun.
I think the gunboats are not an issue, and roamer is not a weak class. It's about how a team works and synergizes with a roamer's playstyle and integrates it within their own team playstyle as a whole.
I love roaming because there's so much you can do with it, and every roamer can make the role their own and take it in a different direction. For example, on all the teams I've been on, I am somewhat a heal-heavy roamer, putting out decent damage, yet I know roamers that take 5% heals and do just as much for their team through key picks and timing.

As a roamer I agree. We need a buff. Valve, a few small requests...
1.) make gunboats do 1dmg per jump, and grant the soldier scout speed.
2.) please up the soldiers health to that of a heavy... Maybe a little more.
3.) please give us robins rocket launcher.

If you want to make your roaming soldier stronger, give them a shotgun.
The only weakness of any soldier known to man is stairs.

Roamer is not weak in the slightest as the roamer is just as vital as the other five classes.

A roamer that gets a buff from his medic will probably win open based off of how little people get buffs.
