TheMatmanI am a junior in highschool with a 4.3 gpa and a 1900 on my first SAT (I am taking it again soon) so my options are pretty open. I am currently looking at NYU, UCLA, and Portland State. I can also highly recommend UC Davis for anyone interested in Agriculture or Veterinary studies.

phobiai want to go to college, but i'm too poor :(

Don't give up on going to college because you're poor. My parents are poor and didn't save or pay a dollar for me or my siblings to go to college. But I was able to go to one of the most expensive colleges in the country for free, and my sister also got financial aid at a state school because we are poor, and working + loans cover the rest for her. Paying back a ton of student loans has got to suck, but having a degree makes a huge difference in peoples' lifetime earnings (and college is a great experience in itself).

The poorer you are, the easier it is to get money for college. Seriously, there are so many public and private grants thrown out. It's much more worrisome if you're in the mid-class where they make your parents pay quite a bit (but still, just apply like crazy for scholarships).

Money shouldn't be a reason why you don't go to college. If you're middle-class and your family's EFC is just too high, there are a ton of good schools that offer grants or work-study programs for students. And, if your EFC is super low, the government will take care of it. College just opens up so many opportunities it's ridiculous to not go at all because of a perceived inability to pay.

asianriceguypoopsharkjokes on you now hes gonna research what it takes to be one of the few kids who make it in and make it happen for himself I wish someone had said that to me when I was in 8th grade, you're a good guy haha. I see a lot of people down in Texas, I may end up there as well (probably going to Rice University unless a miracle happens next week when other schools' results come out).

Rice is a great school. I hardly even leave the business school though, so my impression may be limited.

if you know youre going to come out of college with a good job then just take the loans. if youre remotely responsible with your money they'll be paid off quite fast.

If you're strapped for cash you can always apply to do distance learning through a number of different schools. Take 6-12 credits a semester while you work and cover your own way. It's tough, but possible.

There are a number of reputable universities that offer this as an option. Penn State, NC State, Oregon State, Arizona State, Missouri... ...you have legitimate options out there that are not ITT Tech.

panzerxiiiI'm a 3rd year at RIT right now. Great school for engineering, especially computer engineering or computer science/software engineering! We also run LAN parties.

You should play with rigeL.
When I went to RIT it was kind of depressing. Although my tech school RPI is also pretty depressing.

As long as you're not a african americans studies major or similar, taking out 20k loans/year shouldn't prevent you from attending a college

visitnigAs long as you're not a african americans studies major or similar, taking out 20k loans/year shouldn't prevent you from attending a college

That's not fair. There are many majors that are equally as useless in the job market as African American Studies. For example, American Studies.

And as much as I hate to say it, unless you're getting a business or some sort of useful science degree, don't take out 80k to get a humanities degree. It doesn't matter the prestige of the school. It's not worth it. Go somewhere cheaper and closer to home and get that debt manageable. Because if you do go to that really expensive east coast school to get that fancy name on your CV, you're just gonna end up back at your parents' house anyway.

Taking a semester off right now, but I go to Simpson College. I was going there for the humanities then I found this: http://www.openculture.com/freeonlinecourses I then switched to a computer major.

Fuck paying for humanities classes, spend money to make money instead :3

Junior in High School, I have a 3.5 GPA but I got a 31 on my first ACT without studying so I think I'll be fine. I hope to go to OSU as it's nearby and my parents work at it.
