Valve should remove ingame competitive

Nobody plays it and it gives people the wrong impression of the TF2 competitive scene. If they are not going to actively develop for it they should just remove it. As it stands the ingame comp mode causes more harm than good.

not just that, fov restrictions, no forced viewmodels. just treat it the same as casual at least. que times would go up and everything would be faster. and maybe not punish so hard for leaving the game, because when you get stuck playing against a hacker (sometimes multiple) its a. leave and get banned for a week or b. loose and go down in rank

If Valve would actually do something about the hackers that wouldnt even be an issue. Sadly getting Valve to do ANYTHING productive is like pulling teeth. For example the det bug still exist.

CS:GO has much more restricted options than TF2, yet it's a huge esport. The only thing that's really killing the competitive scene is the lack of a Valve backed tournament. Money shifts a lot of things around and makes people able to ignore annoyances.

Sure, we could also have some optimizations to the game like CS:GO has had, but really just a Valve tournament would be enough.

ya but cs is optimized and doesnt run like dogshit on dx9, or when ragdolls/gibs/picmip is forced on/high value
which locks out a large portion of people who want to play above 50 fps

Most pubbers playing comp for the first time wont care as much anout their graphics as they would care anout their 2 hour queue that ended in them getting stomped by 3 hackers.

GrapeJuiceIIIthe queue wouldn’t be 3 hours long if more people were able to play it with above 30 fps

Honestly, I think a large majority of the playerbase play the game below 30fps.

The problem when MM came out, was not the queue times, config limiting options (caveat here), or anything mentioned above. Nearly every MM game died before it started due to one player not being able to get into the server because they are playing the game on such outdated components (maybe config played a small part here). If the game did get started, most matches died due to a player leaving in the middle causing the match results to be nullified. Valve didn't account for this problem (and it is barely accounted for) until it was too late; by then MM left a sour taste in most players mouth so they just never re-queued.

Nowadays, I do think that removing config restrictions would probably get the competitive community to play MM occasionally but I don't know if that is enough players to sustain the format.

one of the benefits of that at least being in the game is that people understand competitive as a format exists. allot of people see competitive, they try to queue, it takes too long, and then they google tf2 competitive and find a league/pug system. Obviously this is far from ideal, but its better than players ending up with 1.5k hours on only trade_minecraft.

Valve isn’t going to remove competitive entirely. It’s like the constitution, you can only make amendments.

CS:GO doesn't run like a trash can without a GFX config. CS:GO doesn't force different settings in competitive and casual. CS:GO is not derived from Quake where people actually care about being able to disable viewmodels. CS:GO isn't projectile based so using there default net settings doesn't cripple you. CS:GO didn't have these settings which the competitive comunity has been playing with for the better part of a decade to begin with. It's not comparable.

Stochast1cHonestly, I think a large majority of the playerbase play the game below 30fps.

This is definitely something that needs some serious addressing by Valve. As much as i hate Overwatch at least it runs great on the vast majority of semi modern systems without a gfx config. Hell i would argue that Overwatch @ 144fps feels a LOT smoother than TF2 at 200+. I imagine the pub community is feeling this even more than we are (gfx configs are prolific in competitive + lower player count).

They should be working on shit that would actually have an impact. That update did the most harm to the game than any

it did harm BECAUSE it was bad, if they put out something playable there would be no harm. thatd be like fucking up one assignment halfway through the semester since you misunderstood something, and instead of trying to figure it out at all you just drop the class

“much more restrictive options”
like what? their tiny ass muted viewmodels cant be turned off? you can turn all the settings down in CSGO and still
play in any server in any mode. if you want to launch tf2 competitive it locks your giant ass colorful distraction of a viewmodel in front of your face and your detail settings lock at high

why in god’s green hell you think cs is more restrictive

the main goal of this was to let peoplw kno that competitve TF2 exists. weve moves passed that and now people who dont even play TF2 are aware that comp tf2 exists, theyre just completely uninterested or think its boring/ pubbers pretending they dont like the idea of ‘tryharding’ when really theyre daunted by the fact that they arent as good as banny

go talk to the top scoring pubber with the unusual hat and ask him why he doesnt play

u cant just fix the system 4 years later and expect them to care, unless they gain hats or some shit for playing comp but i dont think valve would ever go that far

like they know about tf2lobby now and a lot of pubbers have a fair amount of games on that but are still uninterested and tf2lobby is offering the same if not better experience of what we want matchmaking to do

this update btw took valve like 2 years. they spent 2 years making some shit that just made the situation worse

so its smarter to focus on an update that made the game as a whole more interesting, not even just 6s but an update that would have a knock on effect on 6s. i think it would be more important if we communicated with valve with community approved weapon ideas (like the LG)

the whole game needs fixing, not just 6s. the best updates would effect the whole game at the same time, with gunboats as the obvious example of wat im trying to tell ya...

its also a better option for valve because we can take it into our own hands and even make the models for it. we say this is what we want it to look like, heres the stats and heres why it needs to be in the game which is much clearer and reduces valve fucking it

its not even like they failed the semester either. off the top of my head there was like 90k (or 40 cant remember) players playing and out of that huge number not even 12 are playing and they spent 2 years on this project its wayy beyond a flop its a complete embarrassment to the game and to valve themselves

I feel like at this point TF2 needs a dev reset on a new engine. The core gameplay is MOSTLY fine but with all the dumb useless shit haphazardly tacked on the game runs like trash, looks like trash, and has some significant balance issues.
I would love a TF2 dev reset to contain the following.

  • A new engine with modern lighting effects, tessellation, the ability to support higher res textures and more items/particle effects without shitting the bed, and modern netcode.
  • Embrace the generalist/specialist class design. Stop trying to shoehorn the specialist into being generalist.
  • Start from scratch. Only keep iconic items that have a significant impact on gameplay or move there effects to base stats.
  • COMPLETE OVERHAUL OR REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT OF THE PYRO CLASS
  • Integrate a TF2 lobby-like system into the main menu with free Valve hosted servers
  • No more casual matchmaking. This game is niche and the community is it's lifeblood. Replace with game finder with community endorsed pubs/Valve official pubs
  • REMOVE POINTLESS RANDOM ELEMENTS FROM THE GAME

I know this is pointless and Valve will never see it but i think we should possibly start preparing for a post-Valve Team Fortress community with a possible Open source unofficial spiritual successor to TF2 if Valve insist on leaving this game to rot.
