tordanaOwner of ReSurfed here (I was providing my server for the surfing section of the event).
I think it's really a shame that, regardless of the trustworthiness of Snoven, the TF2 community managed to witch hunt hard enough to freak out the kid and force a cancellation of the event. The point of this was not to inflate anybody's ego, it was to raise money for a good cause and help out some kids in need. I personally just sent in $25 directly via childsplaycharity.org and I encourage others to do the same.
The issues that people have expressed with snoven are only those with a direct impact on his ability to manage a charity event with competence and transparency. I think everyone here recognizes that the important part of the event is raising money for a good cause, and people are upset because it appears the administrator has come between our community's willingness to donate and the money actually reaching Child's Play. I work at a non-profit and I haven't seen anything here that crosses the border from "legitimate concerns" to witch hunting. I know if my org ran a similar event, I would be prepared and able to answer any of these concerns with openness and ease. Transparency is a really, really big deal in this field.
You are right though, the important part here is to not let this setback get in the way of people donating to Child's Play through legitimate channels.

The point of it appears to have been to take his scamming activities to a new level. If he's made the event toxic then he is the one to blame... and maybe whoever gave him the keys to the car.

If you're doing a charity thing with items, you probably want to use trusted middle men in the future. Could also make donation promises, similar to how KickStarter works, so the donation only happens after the event successfully concludes.
Shame this fell through, the TF2 community is pretty amazing, but we're also pretty damn generous and trusting... pretty easy traits to be exploited by scumbags. Good luck to everyone who donated getting your stuff back.

Even if that's true (which it does certainly look to be at this point) - it would have been nice if the event had still happened with only the direct donation option. Anybody that already donated items is probably fcked, but the best scammer in the world can't take your money donated directly to Child's Play. There were a lot of people other than Snoven (graphics team, casters, players, etc. etc.) that put time and effort into making this thing happen.

With that said, clearly ReSurfed will *not* be closing tomorrow as originally planned. However, I want to reiterate that I am happy to make the server available to anybody running similar events to this, whether that be ToTH or somebody else. There's plenty of room for good deeds beyond the yearly ToTH, and I hope this incident doesn't force others considering planning things to stop. Everybody has skeletons in their closet, part of life is moving on. I got VAC banned and laughed out of the competitive community 6 years ago as a stupid kid, but stuck around with the game and ended up running a server network bigger than I ever imagined it would be.
just read what wrecheddddd posted, and think again.
i don't know why you and your fellow admin are being so soft/ignorant, but your "neutrality" just makes us look like skeptical bastards who wrongfully 'attacked' someone who wanted to better his life and be generous to the unfortunate.
but, clearly, this guy is abusing the generosity of alot of people, for his own personal greed.
you really, still, think that he had even planned to go through with the event..? and even if so, then it certainly wasn't his priority.
and if you think that it was us who killed this event by 'attacking' snoven, then it was you too. because we trusted this event, including him, and you did the same.
and even if he had not cancelled; would viewers really enjoy a host who has cheated them out of their items?
it's not like we're talking about a few scrap, here. the value is significant.

No one gave him the "Keys to the car" it's more like he jump-started it and kept going. I couldn't this event due to college work coming up. To respond to Defy, please don't call me "dumb as fuck", everyone has 20-20 hindsight. This event was created for good and he like previously stated, tarnished the name. I would like to apologize to everyone who was scammed by him.

OddishDang. When I saw this event and saw that that moron of the community named Plotchy was an admin of the PR team (lol...), I knew to stay far far away. Especially since he's trade banned and is generally the cancer of this small community. http://steamcommunity.com/id/plotchy Thought everyone would kinda double check and think the same way? Didn't realize flares that care would get this popular, lol! Unfortunate.
Honestly Plotchy isn't that bad of a guy. He's just a scammer. I've been playing with him for a year now, he is a pretty chill dude overall. I think you got scammed by him though, so I understand why you hate him. We've got different perspectives, I see the good, you saw the bad. If you actually knew him you'd probably like him.

snovenI'll be leaving this account to attempt to try yet another at clearing my plate and trying to be a different person, which probably will burn and fail again...
ITEMS WILL BE RETURNED IF ASKED OTHERWISE WILL BE SOLD
FTC WILL GO ON for an hour at 12:00 PM PST for anybody expecting it for them to donate towards Child's Play for an hour.
I will no longer be running FTC nor do I expect anybody else to run it, if you do want to take over from my place to make it truly a charitable event, with all of the beautiful artwork done by Fox, Jess, and Blutz I'd suggest using it instead of wasting their hard work, I don't ask for forgiveness, I ask for you all to continue FTC as your own, truly charitable event.
Goodbye everyone
The correct response is to face your past, be very transparent about it, and then be very transparent about the event. Give someone else trustworthy control of the bot so they can handle the expensive items. If you were really trying to atone for your past crimes, this is what you'd do. The absolute wrong thing you could possibly do is try to hide it all by making a new account and trying to make yourself the victim here.

Explain to me how being a scammer makes you a bad person by default? Sure he took advantage of people, sure he was an asshole to them. At the end of the day, he's a nice guy who can make me laugh, and is cool to hang out with.
