squidmustardoverlord contributing to explains the jacked ratings , no bigger fraud. queue the big post from a non-invite player who “learned about the game” watching the rest of us actually play.

shoutout to the (many) invite players who earned a place in this games history, list or not, and happy new year!

to be fair when i asked mustard about the list the only contribution he said that he gave to tery was to put habib in the top 10, cause apparently he wasn't in it in the first place lol

well i know the list is impossible but maybe the issue with this one was they added too many boomers that just played during a time with a much lower skill level, leading to people like alec not even making the list. the moment u saw muma’s placement u knew this would be bs

i would be interested to know if anyone even roughly agrees with this shit, even terry himself or is it like a statistical thing which would explain how it mostly looks random as fuck

an international ranking would be super cool, but I understand it may not be worth it because someone would have to rank hundreds, if not thousands, of NA players before it would be reasonable to include some europeans in the list

Good job writing all this, it has been fun looking back at the names from the past. Would be cool to have a bit more clips from multiple players. I would rather have most players with one clip linked than some people with four and the rest with nothing. The argument that clockwork and b4nny have comparable stats on scout i think should favor clockwork more than b4nny. Considering the amount of healing and ubers b4nny takes i think it is even more impressive that clockwork was able to keep up with b4nnys stats. Good job to beater for the legacy videos.

Writing a similar list for other continets i think would be more difficult. Froyo can be used as a reference for all other teams for the past 7(?) years, while in ETF2L winning teams tend to fold or have core players reitre more often making it harder to compare over time.

Really solid list. The general feel for the placements is well thought out and mostly consistent so gj. It's impossible to get something like this perfect and I think you guys got it as close there as possible.

What ever happened to that global ranking site that updated based on lans and weekly match stats? Not the most accurate but it was pretty cool to use as a reference

If I had to base things off how hard I got shitstomped in the "golden era", and how hard those guys dominated the whole div I would put b4nny, clock, plat, enigma, TLR/seagull/harb. But after playing vs people like yomps, habib, laz, jay and slemnish I could argue all of them deserve top 5 so it's kinda hard to rank people based on 1 time span alone.

Given I played all those eras mentioned, I can safely say there are insane prodigies in both who dominate, but I would not harp on boomers too hard since the meta and way of playing the game was just worse back then. I will stand by what I said before, what made those guys really good back then was their ability to learn and if they wanted to play again they would certainly be very good again after a season or two.

YeeHaw'FPH' > international LAN wins

the tldr on this is that being able to attend an international lan is gatekept by both having an international lan to attend, and having the resources to be able to go at all. a lot of players didnt have either or both, so while its obviouly an important part of history, its difficult to weigh performance vs players that couldnt have gone anyway. tery just wanted to keep the NA discussion to the context of NA performance, that is to say invite regular season and playoffs

doesn't change the fact that lan allows an equal plain field

They're the pinnacle of competition, to devalue them is a joke. If you have a good lan performance it defines your legacy for years (tek, zebbosai). I can't think of many good players who couldn't go to LAN at least once anyway.

pretty much every notable player was able to attend at least 1 iseries event from the NA side, can't really speak much for the EU players though

sure maybe the third seed NA team couldn't go the majority of the time but they weren't going to out-perform b4nny/mixup anyway. the lack of iseries credit is defintely disappointing. for example duwatna won both i52 and i55 but only gets credit for one. in reality he's ranked 40th with 2 international lan wins, which represent wins over the highest level of competition across both NA and EU (and AUS)
