LabasttaDavy you should say this for the 50+ who've had their first demo failure.

Good thing the first punishment for missing a demo check is literally a warning. As in, nothing happens.

springrollsDid you read OP? They literally cut a player, I have no idea if they did it because of not having demos but like...what else do you expect them to do lol. TL can't hack your teammates computers; the only way this could've been avoided is if they cut untamed as well after failing the first demo check and you can't seriously tell me that's a reasonable thing to do as a TL lol.

tf kind of dumb question is that? "did u read the OP" yes i did and yes i genuinely, wholeheartedly WOULD kick someone for not having their demos especially after reminding people constantly to record them AND literally collecting them after each match. i suggest getting a google drive folder and literally collecting the demos urself. i have zero sympathy here and HEY after checking their team page (was already aware because we are in the same div) MOST OF THEIR PLAYERS have no discipline history at all, meaning theyre obviously capable of doing the bare minimum

MAGICyeah I think those 5 pages of players who got banned should've considered "just doing it"

Yes. literally yeah, lmao

I'm not saying that the people on the team are not fucking stupid, they definitely are, but there's no way ur suggesting that what the TL should've done is kick 2/3 of his team lmao.

DavyCDemo check failures need to be strictly punished in order for cheaters to not just say "sorry don't have em" and get a slap on the wrist over and over.

Demo check failures for people randomly selected (i.e. no suspicion of cheating) need to be strictly punished in a system where the goal is to not let cheaters know they are suspected of cheating, at least until the second time they get demo requested lol (not impossible of course for people who aren't cheating but if you are a cheater and u get demo requested again surely you think more likely than not they're on to you).

I'm sure most ppl complaining about this issue don't think that cheaters should be able to go "xd forgot my demos again" and get off for free it's more that we go through this shit to make it so cheaters can't just lay low to make it hard for A/C and yet ppl have had to threaten to boycott playoffs twice cause of cheaters lmao.

Might be unpopular but I would rather a system where only suspected cheaters get demo requested but in exchange there is no amnesty, if you don't have it even on first offense you get banned for x length. Shit man would even save some admin time so they don't have to open a randomly requested demo to see if it's legit and not just some troll that ppl submitted.

their other TL is responsible for 2 of the flags, a ringer for the other, and two other players for the last 2.
2/3 my ass.
i genuinely dont see how its so difficult, most teams dont have issues like this, but apparently im the one that cant read :skull:

yes, I literally think that the strictness is fair because the alternative is a vastly worse situation (cheaters get to cheat and be even less scared of getting banned than they are now). Growing pains of people that have been playing comp for 6 months having to build one new habit and getting fucked for not doing it twice in a row sucks but there is literally no alternative.

Sorry your shit got fucked, but also if you feel like you don't have agency over 5 separate instances of demo failures you're literally just wrong. It sucks but shit happens. GG go next, simple as that king.

Recording your demos and then not slipping on a banana peel and losing them is essentially the only league related thing you have to do on match days if you aren't a team leader. It is your only task. It is one thing. It is a comically small ask by RGL.

Imagine if there was still a client you had to play on. There's no way the average demo forgetter would be physically capable of installing their government mandated bitcoin miner.

untamedI'm willing to even accept the 4 demo failures at this point, however people are making the point that a ringer shouldn't bring a penalty to the team but instead to the individual player, I don't know how it's setup in the rules but if there's a loophole that people are willing to hear them out.

The rules are like that because nobody writing the rules thought it was possible a team could be so braindead that they rack up 4 demo failures and aren't doing so maliciously. Hopefully RGL will address their oversight to better accommodate the IQ of the average open player.

I played a tryout with a player who got arrested the next week (?) for drug dealing or possession (?) (been a while, details murky) never underestimate tf2 players.

Also I have a sneaking suspicion that average age of the lower divs might be younger than the game itself lol.

plumIn an ideal world RGL invests into making prec-64bit because it is good for the community and for their league.

P-Rec only worked on VAC-enabled servers because it was manually whitelisted in TF2's code. An update to P-Rec would require a Valve employee to verify the code was not malicious and then whitelist the new version of it. In recent talks with community members, the remaining Valve employee still interested in working on TF2 stated he would not whitelist a new version, but instead update the in-game Demo Support feature to more closely mirror P-Rec's utility, so it's out of our hands.

Someone more knowledgeable in this area could probably offer more details, but I'm pretty sure that's the gist of it.

TF2 literally has a built in recorder that you can set to only record tournament matches and you have to do nothing else. Putting yourself in the situation with 4 previous failures is like almost intentional with how hard you have to try to not do it.

And the ringer situation is annoying, but you as a team are responsible for the people you bring in. If the rule was different, I could bring in a guy walling his ass off and if he gets caught, I would face no repercussions despite knowingly playing with this dude. I obviously don't think you were trying to do anything scummy, but you have to treat everyone the same.

Remember that demo checks is what killed the elijah freakshow team from a couple years ago. YES it is frustrating to miss a demo check but like seriously the ingame recorder is ridiculously easy to set up, stop being lazy.

You can check if it's actually recording with ds_status. It should automatically start recording the moment you spawn on a class. Another thing to note, you can fix invisible players with the command demorestart instead of record;stop so you don't have broken demo files. I know most huds that have that button will just do record;stop.

If ur lazy u can just dump this in ur autoexec and just test if it's working with ds_status when you join a server with mp_tournament 1.

ds_enable 3
ds_dir "demos"
ds_log 1
ds_min_streak 3
ds_kill_delay 15
ds_notify 2
ds_sound 1
ds_screens 1
ds_prefix ""
ds_autodelete 0
bind "KEY" "ds_mark"

untamed... You guys missed that two of the times we DID have tournament mode enabled for it to still not appear...

Did you check your pregame demo?

If you aren't changing map after games and you stay on the same server (eg. home team) then you'll only have a single huge demo file.

Not to say that the lack of P-REC is good, because it absolutely sucks for everyone. But people have used the built in demo recording system for years and have NEVER faced an issue of being able to find their demos, tournament mode or not. While P-REC makes it easier to find your demos, it's not that different from using in-game system. In the worst scenario, where you cannot manage to figure out how to setup the in-game demo system, you can just manually record your demos and they'll show up in your /tf/ folder.
