Her recent tweets including her final one were very concerning, and the resulting radio silence caused me to search online for her name and city, as I have done before when there was reason to be concerned for her safety. There are most likely others here who can confirm her identity, which would be appreciated. Most importantly, please pay tribute to Lain's life and legacy.

Lain was a caring, smart, creative person who experienced some of the worst of what life has to offer. I can only hope that she is truly at peace now as she has deserved for so long, and I'm so sorry the world never gave her that.

Lain was always kind and sweet to me, and she’d always invite me to game while I was at work. In hindsight I wish I had been able to say yes at least once. rest in peace friend

the loss of young life like this is always terrible under any circumstance, let alone what she was going through. it's extremely disheartening to hear, and i hope the best for her parents and family

As someone who's dealt with psychological breaks and similar issues as Lain, no one should have to go through all the fear, paranoia and delusions alone that she did. It's heart breaking to say the least, very tragic loss of a young life.

May she rest in peace.

RainofLight and I played comp together since UGC steel in 2014, one of my oldest friends in this community. We got to meet a few times at lans over the past few years.
I wish things could have ended differently. My condolences to her and her family.

i had quite a bit of a history with her, some positive, mostly negative, and she definitely didn't make me feel the safest. as a result, every time i heard about her i was hoping she'd get some help so i wouldn't see this thread that i always had a bit of fear that i would. thank you for sharing this, it is so so unfortunate that this happened. i hope her family is okay, and lain deserved better than this. nobody should have to go through what she did.

Heartbreaking news to hear. Mental illness is a horrible thing to experience and can ruin lives and deeply affect those around you. I hope now that her close friends and family can grieve in peace and that she can now rest.

RoL was a fixture of my time playing this game. We didn't always get along, and for most of that time she got more shit than she deserved. Even if we butted heads I look back on those late ESEA seasons really fondly, and it occurs to me that she was there for so much of that. In the server, in the drama, in the pugs. She was a character in so many of my most cherished memories of this game. So many memorable nights of scrims when I was a teenager included RoL running at me with 185 and a dream. I would be mad, but I would be in the respawn queue and she would be the topic of discussion in demo reviews the next day. I think that there are probably a lot of people here who can relate to that.

This morning when I heard the news all I could think about was how lucky I am to be able to look back on those late night scrims and those rivalries and all the drama of competition with fondness and perspective.

It truly breaks my heart that she never got to do that.

You should delete this. Do not assign blame for something so horrible on others when there is only one person responsible.

I completely echo entropy's sentiment. RoL was always around (fucking killing me!!!!) in scrims, pugs, matches during the last 10 or so ESEA seasons. It's disappointing to see a constant such as RoL go, even more disappointing to suicide.

talk to your friends. be kind to your competitors.

Right now, in passing, we should be honoring RoL's legacy, not bickering about things. It's not as simple as one person. This was years of bullying and deterioration, and we should be reflecting as a community, not pointing fingers at people who run an esports organization. But all of that should come later, separately from this thread, which should be reserved for those sharing their shared grief and memory of Lain. Please, for her friends and her sake.

Anyway, I wasn't so involved in comp, so I didn't know much about RoL outside of the occasional b4nny chat, and it was always nice to hang out with her there. I also heard lots of great things about what she did competitively in the game. Over the past few weeks, I only got to see a little bit of her great personality, passion, and talent, and I only wish I had been able to get to know her sooner.

Very sorry to hear this news. I had talked with ROL a little bit about doing the things he loved to help him with the mental health struggles he had faced in his life, but unfortunately it just wasn't enough. It's unfortunate and sad that somebody so young with so much life to give has passed.

This is heartbreaking. I did my best to be kind and supportive of her despite really not knowing her that well. I hope those who tormented her lose access to the internet and go to therapy for their actions.

RIP, I never had to chance to speak to them or play with them, but I know they were close to some of my good friends like airtime. I heard about their struggles and their constant efforts to remain a positive and strong person through their hardships that extended far beyond just what they dealt with online. It takes unbelievable guts to endure what they endured. The last few tweets I read from RoL were a little off-putting to say the least and it's pretty crazy that invite players are saying that to people in the community. Once again, RIP.

I am a complete loss for words; the times I've been with Rain, he was always interested in the most obscure things; he always asked questions because he wanted to know so much about the natural world around him, from even the time he and I talked about the nature and properties of sound; he was such an interesting character. It struck me harder knowing that a couple of days before this, he added me on MGE while I was playing with another friend, and I was happy to give him the game he wanted before he left this Earth. No one on the planet deserves the hate Rain got. My condolences go out to his family and friends. May God finally grant him the eternal peace he always strived to achieve.

I am so deeply sorry to hear this news and to her family. I had reached out to check in on her when I saw her being harassed by the community a year back, which rekindled our friendship since we used to play on an ESEA team together. There wasn't much I could do except listen and give drawing advice when she came to me to chat. The bullying of her was abhorrent, she didn't need to be ridiculed, but needed help and friendship. Her twitter gives some better insight of her mindset of what happened, and too many warning signs. I'm so sorry I missed them, Lain. I sincerely hope people can understand the gravity bullying does to people, this should have never happened. RIP.

I sincerely hope anyone who participated in Lain’s harassment reflect upon their actions and become better people. This is horrible news, and I hope she is now at peace. Fuck all of you who reveled in her misery, I don’t know how you can see someone clearly mentally unstable, posting suicidal ideations onto their twitter, and think that it’s funny. It’s truly just sadistic, cruel, and pathetic how people have treated her, anyone who participated in this behavior needs to go fuck themselves.

To anyone who knew her personally, I hope y’all are going to be alright despite the loss. It’s horrible, and I wish the best for all of you. Never be afraid or ashamed of talking through your issues with those you know, or a mental health professional if you have the means to do so. I wish there was something more that I could say and do to help throughout this awful loss, but I truly do hope everyone affected by this comes out of it whole, as hard as I’m sure it will be for some. Nothing but peace and love for all of those involved, especially Lain herself, y’all deserve it.
