Honestly what seems to be killing invite teams is not making lan. The league is structured such that if a team doesnt make lan they can simply quit now and start again next season. Its a method where getting new players into invite is extremely difficult. I think there are some IM teams that are more worthy of invite than another reformed invite team that will die when they dont make lan again.

It definitely seems like a structural issue. I don't think I've seen a season go by since last year without at least one invite team dying before the season ended. Once a team realizes it's not going to LAN and thus has no real reason to keep playing/practicing, there's just no incentive to keep the roster together.

ESEA should make the different divisions like in real sports. If the first 4 teams go to lan, why not to make the other four teams in invite having to fight in a playoff to see which one (or more than one) will go down to IM? This will make people who want to stay in Invite, they will have to keep training and playing.
And make playoffs in IM so the winner(s) goes to Invite too.
This way every season some team(s) will go up from IM to Invite and always will be new blood in the league.

its really not that big of a deal, shit happens and circumstances change all the time. There will be a great selection of players to form invite teams next season, hopefully with some new up and coming faces.

Allow me to explain. The reason people disrespect invite like this is because there is no prestige to it. Just about anyone can get in and then leave whenever they want with the door left wide open. In any other game you need to muscle your way up to invite and when you get there it's an accomplishment. In TF2 invite-status is handed to anyone who asks for it. If we don't earn it we don't respect it. You bet your sweet collective asses if people had to work their way up from open to invite there wouldn't be such a capricious division foundation nor would they take it for granted.

How about the first top 3 teams in invite are guaranteed a LAN spot and teams 4-8 plus the top IM regular season team play a seeded playoffs to decide who gets the fourth spot?
This way all teams will still have a shot at LAN and have an incentive to stick together and the benefit to placing 4th is that you play the IM team instead of an invite team in the first round.

why would we even have a regular season in the first place if you used that idea. We may as well vote for the top 3 teams of the season at the very start, and then just randomly throw in another team
KillingAt the beginning of the season I was actually thinking of not allowing sweater into invite. This entire ordeal makes me think that some sort of "Invite Blacklist" would be a good idea. This wouldn't necessarily mean you're banned from invite for life, it would just make it much harder for certain individuals to get in. Ideally, players on the blacklist would have to make their way into invite through IM rather than a direct seed. This would force players to put in time and effort to get into invite rather than taking it as a given. The players will probably do well in IM which makes life much easier than a sub par invite season so it wouldn't really be a true test but I guess it'd be better than nothing. Playing 1 full season of invite would get you off the blacklist which means if you fuck up twice, you need to go through IM twice. This would act as a deterrent I'd assume but it may force players that give up as easily as these to quit rather than put in the time. Powah is a prime example of how to quit a team. He told his team his situation and gave them plenty of time. Leaving like that won't get you on a blacklist.

What players and teams need to start to realize is that Invite level tf2 will never be stable or competitive throughout the whole division unless there are more invite quality teams, not just teams randomly thrown together before the season made up of invite or ex-invite players. What Invite needs to become competitive and continue its longevity and keep its integrity is that teams need to keep playing together for long periods of time, work up through the ranks, achieve some realistic goals and that way you will create another invite quality team, NOT another team thrown together with "invite" players on the roster, as that will not create any real competition.
I think the Invite blacklist is an amazing idea, this would be a great way to keep teams together and steadily improve as a team and work towards some real goals, much better then any "roster rule" would. additionally, It would more then likely stop the trend that sees teams form with all-stars weeks before the season, fails miserably, then everyone leaves and reforms another mix with the same players.
please TF2 community, deeply consider this suggestion from killing and you will see guaranteed improvement in competition across the board.

I really like the idea of the bottom invite team getting relegated to IM, and the top IM team moving up to take their spot in invite. And Ruwin has it right, you should have to earn your way to the top, no just get picked up w/out earning it.

It's fucking ridiculous how a gap in the roster is given to the first person they know rather than someone who is relevant in the high IM scene. Look at tehoreoz, I don't mean to pick on him - but he hasn't been relevant since fucking season 7. Getting into invite 5 seasons later simply by connections is fucking ridiculous.
I'm not singling him out, this game is full of glorified ringers who took the game seriously at one point and then come back years later. Players who don't care about improving and don't touch the game until a scrim or match rolls around.
