As much as it's possible to think about one part of a map in isolation, how much fun was to be had by either team once the first 2 points of cp_gravelpit were captured? How well did the map play out at this point?
Was boring? Stalemate-prone? A mess? Had good flow? Frustrating? Encouraged good plays?

people used to put sentry on top of the point or in the slope at the left of the spawn i think
gravelpit 5cp with C as last or 2nd would be s1k imo

Definitely not as easy to push as it is to defend, especially if you're talking the highlander meta.
For 6s it was more of a struggle to get to the point since only 2 classes can reach it and 1 requires a c-tap, so it's hard to clutch out a last ditch defense (see coL.reptile)
It's fun to hold, but once you die it's basically a loss unless your teammates can clutch it out long enough. I also think it might look fun to push since there are 5 different entrances to use (3 entrances being the most used), but at the same time it's easy to spam out every single chokepoint and punish with high ground advantage, so it's not as fun to push overall

So is that "theoretically, yes for both, but actually, for red, no, a single miss cost too much, and for blue, no, it was too hard to get into any of the entrances"?

Gpit produced the most exciting matches of any map. I did have a few ideas for a pro version (an extra pathway between B - C that went underneath), but I never actually made it.

I personally loved playing gpit, but I can definitely understand why scouts and soldiers who had to offclass to engy/heavy because the map demanded it would have disliked it. Long defenses or late-round caps on C were some of the most exhilarating tf2 I ever played.

It was sick, the map was always amazingly tense to watch and play.

GPit had some great games to watch, and made a lot of upsets

however playing it wasnt really that fun, and you could only practice it during Gpit week since nobody scrimed it normally

when it was removed from the ESEA map pool was a sad day for TF2, truly

Only time Gpit wasn't fun was when the teams was really unevenly matched, imo. The cap times became too long and it was really frustrating trying to play against a way better team.

It was so fun to watch at a high level but it was miserable for shitty open players
Sounds like good players enjoyed playing it too, should have stayed in rotation

It was pretty intense especially when the timer was getting down to 0. A lot of cool different plays for attacking & defending.

If everyone seems to like gpit so much, why was it removed from the map rotation?

never got played in scrims, eventually lots of people started hating having to play it in matches (in aus)

people didnt like it because it was the only 3 cp A/D map in the pool and people wanted to just thin it down to Koth and 5cp, as well as some teams just refusing to play it because they didnt like it and people not thinking it showed "true skill to win an outlier like gpit"

If it wasn't as enclosed and clippy as it is, it makes for some quite tense defending.

people complained a lot about gpit when it was still in rotation. Long spawn times, long cap times, engie near mandatory (people would probably have less of a problem with this these days), some clipping issues, really poor balance between the points. And while the fights themselves were crazy intense, there was also a lot of walking/prep time, especially on c because of the lack of any forward spawns.
I wouldnt mind seeing it back but id much prefer a community A/D map made with 6s in mind. The map was fine but there are some stellar mapmakers these days that could definitely make one better than Gpit.

gpit would always have been good if the rulesets hadn't been so bad, in my opinion anyway.
should never have been AD, DA- should just have had it be stopwatch once and that's it. Just have a fistfight if you can't decide who defends first. The whole best of 3 thing just made the length way too long to be scrimmed on.
