what do you guys expect? valve made half life to be a super scripted and narrated video game in times where arena shooters were popular, i dont think they like to conform to whats the popular way to make a campaign based fps when it comes to half life
not saying its gonna be good but its not surprising that they would develop it for vr lol

You mean Marc Laidlaw? Who essentially wrote most of the Half-Life story to begin with? Somehow I get the feeling he regrets nothing

I've had VR for a bit now and to be honest I think a lot of people downplay how fun it can be. The level of immersion that is felt in VR can't really be replicated on a monitor or TV. Even trailers for this game will undersell what it will be like to actually play it. I get that people are upset they will need a VR headset to play it, but thats no different from a game being a console exclusive.

I've tried vr a couple times and it was honestly super fun. It was actually way more immersive then I thought it would be. It was a vive and it didn't feel like I was just wearing a helmet with a screen in front of my face, actually kind of felt like I was in the game, no lag or delay, controls felt natural(prob depends on the game), visuals were fucking awesome, etc.

Not saying this half life game will be good but VR definitely has potential imo.

Except the new console is $1000, is only wanted for this one game, and requires a dedicated room.

In ADDITION to this you need a $1500 PC and VR causes motion sickness for many people.
Also using the consoles as your example isn't a good argument. I don't buy consoles because i hate the idea of vendor lock.

i think the point is here is that valve are thinking that if a new half life exclusive to VR won't get people to buy VR, then it is impossible for VR to succeed
i just hope people aren't bugmen enough to shell out $1000+ (or more "modest" $500 for the game, a vive, and a small PC upgrade) for one game, that's gonna keep valve on this massive power trip

people didnt think they could run half life 2 when they first showed that to be fair, the press even made jokes about that at conferences and tech demos

I'm ignorant when it comes to VR, is this one where you stand up and actually move to move in the game or do you sit down but have a pad or something for movement?

The fact that you can walk around with the joystick and that it’s not forcing you to do some teleportation crap that takes you out of the experience makes me feel a tiny bit better

I think people on this forum just aren't the target audience for vr. That's why there is so much "WhAT a GiMMiCk" on this thread. VR is for people that enjoy immersion and a different experience when they're playing games compared to the competitive 10 year old video game players that are here

you say that, until you actually try it and immediately throw up after zooming 6 feet on an invisible hoverboard

Super excited to actually have a possible AAA game for VR. Beatsaber is great and all, but a true high quality game built ground up for VR will really show where the tech can go in the future.

199... err 2020, the year where Half-life and Doom will be some of the most talked about games. What timeline is this again?

have any of these people who are calling VR a gimmick ever played it? just my opinion but if the game industry had more of a focus on VR like console or PC (which might start to happen if this game pops off) it would be the only thing I would play. its cool and fun as fuck and I already play it a shit ton, hopefully the equipment becomes cheaper.

also, you don't really need a separate room or that much space to play in. I can do it in my pretty small bedroom by just moving a couple pieces of furniture
