back when this event happened thefragile did an awesome hour long presentation that went over pretty much the entirety of tf2's competitive history, as far as formats, reigning teams, rule changes, and other notable events happening. unfortunately it looks like the links are down so there is no way to watch the presentation

i know that always works on me, especially when they actually dont like me!

i'm going to go against the grain here. if you've played for 3500 hours and you are genuinely straining to mechanically perform at a high pub level then maybe the game just isn't for you, and no matter the hours you put it you won't get better. not everyone is wired to be able to accomplish any goal. sometimes there are biological or physical/mental factors that hold you back.

now, the hardware could be what is holding you back if your setup is truly as horrible as it seems. if you just jumped on a friends setup at lan, you would be completely unfamiliar with what a good setup feels like and you wouldn't necessarily be able to perform any better than usual. if you are really, really dedicated to the game, get the hardware upgrades that you need to be able to play comfortably (both computer wise and actually having a desk with a space for your mouse) then give yourself a couple of months to see if you improve noticeably. if its not happening at that point you might have to accept the fact that you're not good at the game and there is something fundamental preventing you from improving.

the concern with the death pit is that it creates gameplay where people potentially die against a lower skilled opponent without getting outplayed. the best way to avoid dying to the death pit is to just avoid that part of the map entirely, and then you never have to be concerned with catching a rocket wrong and just falling to your death. deathpits are a ton of fun on casual maps but dont have a place on competitive maps.

lastly i'd like to cover some bad advice in this thread

wrong, intentionally avoiding contractions in order to sound sophisticated is sophomoric and pretentious

always use a thesaurus, but never use a word from the thesaurus unless you have a solid understanding of the specifics of the meaning of it. words have subtly different meanings and wholesale swapping from a thesaurus will fuck your essay's tone six ways from sunday

"We went to build..."
this is fine.

"We weren’t afforded..." dont make your experience in a struggling community all about yourself, make it about the people you helped. this sentence makes it seem like the focus of the trip was that you had to rough it, instead of the focus of the trip being the good you did for the community.

"We learned so much..."
this is an appropriate place to talk about yourself, but still try to involve the community in some more explicit way

"..."
there is no closing sentence (or at least no strong one), nothing wraps up your experience or relates it back to your hometown and draws a comparison between the communities i.e. what the essay is supposed to be about.

IN GENERAL
avoid specifically speaking negatively about people/groups (even by implication), instead focus on the positive experiences that you have had and maybe those around you who share in your positive experiences. you dont need to specify that your classmates are lazy for not taking volunteer opportunities, you just need to focus on your community and how they have enabled you specifically to take those opportunities. in referring to the volunteer work specifically, dont go on about yourself and how hard it was for you to do, focus again on the community that you helped and how you helped them. the essay is supposed to be about communities, drawing a parallel between your well off hometown and a struggling community could make for a really interesting essay if you dont make it entirely about yourself.

also, vary your sentence structure. the majority of the sentences in the essay are "i verb noun" "we verb noun" "my group verb noun"
