I wonder if letting the client run longer will get them, right right?

I really hope that there isn't a penalty for uninstalling and reinstalling for matches. Probably just won't play ESEA if there is.

Too bad Windows Server Container hasn't been released. Could be a viable "fix" for this, you could have an ESEA container with all the crapware, and a clean container without it.

Apparently CS players aren't happy about this either...

I doubt cs:go players will make enough of a fuss that esea will even consider reverting the change. It would be nice if that happened, but highly unlikely. cs:go players have long put up with esea's crap even though they have actual alternatives, I doubt this will change anything.

dollarlayerDreamboatAlways on means more bitcoins
Exactly what I was thinking.... lmao. However in all honesty CPU mining bitcoins might make them 1 cent a year per user. Bitcoin mining is now exclusively done on ASIC chips. CPU/GPU mining won't even come close to covering the cost of electricity consumed.
"please note that running the ESEA Client and playing on ESEA servers is entirely optional, there are other places to play, and if you're uncomfortable with the Client always running then you should uninstall and cancel your subscription."
Seems like a deal with it or GTFO statement. Personally I'd like to see some proof that the ESEA client actually does something as far as anti-cheating for TF2 goes.
5000$ a year is not that bad.

I'm confused. I know they're spying in on our machines and bitcoin mining, but what does this mean for playing tf2? Will i still be able to connect to public servers? What happens if i uninstall esea?

Its no secret that csgo has a larger cheating problem than tf2. This is a good change for the growth of csgo. You have a 1 million prize pool for esl/esea. When money is on the line people will cheat.

That was unexpected, I don't understand why they did this after the whole BitCoin stuff they did. Also, is playing on non-ESEA servers with client on really that bad?

I had a teammate who tried to without realizing, he said it was terrible.

If the client didn't make my game run for crap, I would be perfectly willing to give ESEA the benefit of the doubt and let this go until actual issues arise. I can totally believe this is necessary for CSGO - especially with the huge prize pool.
If they fuck it up and do anything shady, I don't think there would be any leniency in the next lawsuit - so they'd be dumb to not have this carefully managed.
The question is how are those of us who want to play TF2 deal with it? My game is nigh unplayable with the client running on non-ESEA servers. Dual boot seems excessive but the only plausible option right now?

I hate to be that guy who doesn't know how things work, but couldn't you just have two user accounts, one without ESEA installed and one with, and then just log off the ESEA account whenever it's not necessary? Or does the client remain open regardless?

what causes the stutter? is there a workaround or viable fix?

i dont think lpkane's going to get his feelings hurt that people are complaining about the always-on client, it would be incredibly naive of him to assume there would be no backlash

lpkanes general business strategy is "if you don't like it get the fuck out" and the only people really complaining are redditors (and you can see from the esea thread the community's opinion on them) so if there is any backlash he's going to be ready

to play devil's advocate, the always-on anti-cheat will likely improve detections a lot, which, if you play cs, is sadly a saving grace for that game if you want to play it competitively at all
but lpkane has some serious balls trying this shit following the lawsuit his company lost

Can someone run some benchmarks comparing TF2 Performance with/without the ESEA client installed?
I've heard reports that uninstalling the client doesn't always remove the driver component, has anyone seen this?
Does the client show the resources it's using in Task Manager still?
Does it always stay in your taskbar?
