personal preference is a thing but I wanna hear your opinions. I am experimenting with crosshairs and I can't decide what's best for me, what do u guys use?
As a starting point, try to figure out what you prefer in a crosshair, such as "I like crosshairs that display my health" or "I like crosshairs that display my speed").
If you don't really like the premade crosshairs online, you can make your own. Here are some resources to get you started:

- Valve Texture Format - VDC Wiki
Side note: If you're looking for premade crosshairs, I made custom crosshairs for myself that you are free to try out.

I just use a basic green cross, many people use this too as it's simple and effective, easy to see, doesn't obstruct your view. Also used dot crosshairs in Overwatch/TF2 which worked well but sometimes you can tend to lose track of it (maybe just me), also many people use konrWings variants which seem to be useful on scout since if any part of the crosshair/wings is on an enemy, you know you'll be doing damage. Usually keep it simple, relatively small, and a bold colour that stands out against the map (green, white, pink, etc)

As for the OP’s question, it honestly is 99% preference and the justification as to why most people use their crosshairs is legit just “because I like it”.
The only thing I’d say is to use a colour that’s easy to see, so like green, yellow or magenta as an eg.

crosshair7 is the best crosshair no matter what class youre on
i normally have a small yellow circle but I have mild colorblindness and i sometimes lose track of it, so I changed it to a different version which has a bit of a shadow, but I struggle using that and now im at a cliffhanger, not sure what to do
your crosshair is the area on the screen where when you click = good
small crosshair for practice, larger crosshair for play
below is what i have in my custom folder, its from yomps customs and it allows you to simply type like "yellow" in console to change your xhair color or "32" to change the cl_crosshair_scale to 32 or "ring" to change it to the ring. Pretty useful on the fly.
- download, unzip, open that unzip, throw it into your custom folder
- make sure to add "exec settings/alias.cfg" to your autoexec.cfg file

I end up switching a lot because I feel as if different crosshairs encourage different aiming styles at least for me.
I wanna encourage myself to track I use default/seeker
If I wanna encourage myself to be precise I use crosshair5
Crosshair7 feels well rounded.
Colours I change depending on the map.

imo simpler is better. You want it to be clearly visible at all times, but take up as little space as possible. much like any other HUD element basically.
crosshair3, crosshair5, crosshair6, crosshair7, brackets. All fine
If you're looking at custom ones you can consider outlines or shadows
Stuff like pilot crosshair or giant crosshairs just add clutter
If you go more obscure than a variation of a dot, cross or bracket you're probably overthinking things (and I say that as someone who has made and used some very questionable crosshairs in the past)

Literally doesn't matter as long as it's functional. xhair 7 is goated, the defualt xhair that is the dot with wings is also good. I've used both on every class, the game is the same.
crosshair is one of the least impactful settings imo
ive used magenta dot as long as i remember but literally anything that isnt comically mis-sized or a color that blends in with maps theyll all function more or less the same

IIRC the circle crosshair at size 14 or 15 on 1080p was perfect for me to know where the tightest spread of bullets would hit on a medium distanced target to make up for the fixed spread that would bloom up to a distance and miss a portion of the target. I just wanted consistency of pellets at a distance, meatshots don't really need to be visually compensated for. Hit the middle, hit the whole spread. Different story at a distance on a fixed spread. If the target couldn't fill up most the circle, wouldn't have been worth to click.
As for color, open up a color picker and randomize the selection and feel out which color stands out the most to you. Not your favorite color, but one that your eye just can't avoid noticing.

This is a good site for previewing crosshairs. Crosshair outlines might be useful for your color blindness. This site has versions of the default crosshairs with outlines (3OL is circle, 5OL is dot).

real scout players change crosshairs twice a day just use all of them at once to get a leg up on the competition
i have a heart for a crosshair it fr does not matter at all and barely affects your aim unless its a) blocking your view or b) invisible

Yes. It is possible to have crosshairs display health and speed thanks to the Health and PlayerSpeed material proxies.
In fact my medic crosshair displays my speed to me, so that I don't have to try and guess my speed.
