God, recently started watching this with my fiance. I've read the books so his reactions are a part of the entertainment for me.
"What's gonna happen, buddy?"
"He's not going to die, he's a main character, right? ...HOLY SHIT WHAT."
Too bad the show's going to catch up to the book soon. I wonder how that's going to go.

there are 5 books, this was the first season that didn't end at the end of a corresponding book, so its basically half way through book 3.
book 4 sucks, can't imagine what they're gonna do for it.

They're doing one season per book, with the exception of book three, which they are splitting into two seasons.

they are also going to combine book 4 and 5 for obvious reasons, don't know how many seasons they would get out of that, I think George said probably 2
Yeah, combining 4 and 5 into 2 seasons makes sense since both take place in the same time period, though it will be mostly book 5 content.
book 4 is boring as hell
Hmmm... Where do you think the season break will be and what would be the "episode 9" events?

I hope the entirety of season 4 is just

ukmShow Contentthe baby stabbing caught me offguard, even with talisa not in the books it seemed pretty obvious she would get killed as soon as they had her attending the wedding, but I didn't really expect it to be QUITE so brutal. pretty tight they managed to shock me a bit even having read the novel

What did you enjoy most:
Brienne traipsing around the riverlands doing nothing, Cersei sitting in King's landing doing nothing, Sansa sitting in the Eyrie doing nothing or Sam sitting on a boat doing nothing? Seriously, about two things happen in that entire book. The only interesting part is Doran.
The problem is that the entire second half of A Storm of Swords is nonstop shitfuckery, where every chapter advances the plot in significant ways. And then, A Feast For Crows happens.
A lack of action =/= a lack of interesting content.

I'm not saying the story needs to be nonstop dragons, sieges and undead invasions, I'm saying something interesting has to happen.

The series is primarily a character-driven political thriller. I mean it has the fantastical elements and more action that your average story of that nature but the most interesting thing about the books are the characters. Almost nobody in the story is written as a black and white moral archetype and the development of nearly every character is really interesting and layered. The murdering of major characters and shocking plot twists are useful devices that keep the tension up and keep the reader engaged but for me those are very much a means to an end and the storytelling is fantastic even when it is low-key.
I just wanna take this moment to say thank you based enigma for adding the spoiler function and thank you all for using them. <3
I will say that AFFC & ADWD have a lot of interesting developments plot-wise, especially regarding new POV characters like the Martells & other Dornefolk, and the Greyjoys. But none of it really pays off by the end of either book. It all seems to be setup for The Winds of Winter, which I hope to be more akin to ACOK/ASOS in terms of plot development and pacing.
